Meet TReal McCoy | Visual Artist/Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with TReal McCoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TReal, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket”. Why not? That’s like saying don’t put your best foot forward. I feel like that saying comes from a person who was afraid to fail and played it safe, which there’s nothing wrong with by the way. But the cold hard truth is chickens lay eggs every day, so if you drop your basket just get a new one.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is how I interpret the world around me. The only thing that separates me is the fact that no one can duplicate my thought process. No one has the same life experience as me, so to get my vision you have to come to the source. And that’s exactly how I got here, being myself. Ironically, being myself was an obstacle I had to face because it’s so easy to get caught up in these “guidelines” for art. The secret is not caring about the rules, that’s not art and it’s not original. And the TReal McCoy will forever represent originality and break the so called “rules”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For those that don’t know, I’m putting on for Chattanooga. So my go to spots are the nature trails and Station St for local bars and eats. It’s not really a town with many attractions, so for big fun I usually just shoot down to Atlanta. The list of things to do there is too long, from Fellaship Cigar Lounge to Bonfire ATL every Sunday, it’s my go to area. I 10/10 would recommend Little Five Points and EA Village.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout will forever go to my grandparents. Without them I strongly believe I would lack a lot of the discipline and principles that put me in this position today. Manners and respect will open doors money can’t.
