Meet Trevor Laake: Vocalist for Screams of Syrens, Actor, Composer & Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevor Laake and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trevor, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is everything in the music industry. Bands that just play local shows and never do anything outside of their comfort zone will never go anywhere. It’s just a fact of this industry. My band, Screams of Syrens, has had some success because of risk taking.
Touring being one of the major ones! As a smaller band with no financial backing from major labels, it’s all on you. So you are taking a big risk by funding a tour that could possibly have no money on the back end. But we do it because this is our passion, you take risks for what you love!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I own and operate a small recording studio in Riverside, CA, and I am the frontman for Metalcore band Screams of Syrens. It definitely wasn’t an easy thing to get fully going and make the studio a career!
I have been doing it for about 11 years now, and as of recently I’m slowly transferring from working with bands and artists to just working full time as a studio vocalist.
As far as lessons learned along the way, music is a tough industry. Like REALLY tough. You have to have thick skin and a serious amount of determination and drive to make a living off it. I have been pursuing it for about 12 years, and I’m just starting to make a living from it.
It’s rough, but for those of us who truly love it, it’s worth the hardships and struggle. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a huge rollercoaster junkie, so I would definitely take them to Magic Mountain or Knotts! That would be one of the main highlights for sure. Other things I would do are definitely a beach trip to enjoy the SoCal sun, grab some food and drinks and one of the coolest places I’ve ever been called Naja’s Place in Redondo Beach, and go on some hikes, maybe around the Hollywood sign.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to give credit to my parents for always pushing me to pursue my passions. They have been hugely helpful in every way they can be
