We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevor Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trevor, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Continuous learning. As a child, I remember reading encyclopedias, being excited about book order forms, asking questions, and questioning the answers. Curiosity keeps one open to new ideas. Curiosity also requires humility; the ability to accept that “I don’t know” and knowing that’s okay.

The greatest lessons I’ve learned are from my experiences and the experiences of others. I advocate for mentorship, but it doesn’t have to come through a personal relationship. Study history, study those who came before you, read their books, listen to their interviews, and study their philosophies. Applying the wisdom of others to our personal lives gives us our first case study. If it works, continue to test and retest. This is how I’ve found success in every area of my life and how I continue to do so.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create with a past version of myself in mind. I consider all that I was looking for then, combine it with the skills, intellect, and inspiration I have now, and I do my best to create the imagined experience to share with others. This purpose-driven approach to my art has evolved in many ways. In my days of preaching, being a high school teacher/coach, becoming a yoga instructor, and even as a content creator, I intend to do the thing I love in a way only I, my unique soul, can do. This is key to overcoming imposter syndrome as a creative. It’s in realizing that your imagination is the most sacred space between you and the Divine, that your best ideas will seem to come out of thin air, however, the truth is they come from within. In short, I like to say “Be the light you wish you had.”

If you come to one of my yoga classes, you’ll find the playlist, the sequence, the lighting, the theme, the aroma, and the guided meditation, it is all set intentionally to create the ideal experience for anyone who attends, but where do I get the inspiration? From my desires. I am considerate of the type of guidance and structure a more novice version of me would have liked. I use my experience as a DJ to curate the ideal 60-minute “Soul Flow” playlist with R&B, Soul, Jazz, and instrumentals to help guide the energy of the class. I use my love for play, athleticism, calisthenics, and my experience as a coach to provide a well-mapped sequence that allows practitioners of all levels to find physical comfort or to safely explore their edge. Then I tie in my love for philosophy and psychology, my passion for educating, and my experience as a preacher into my delivery. What could have been just another yoga class becomes a communal, therapeutic, and inspirational experience like none other. This is why my weekly studio classes tend to have 30-45 people in them. It’s more than just shapes and poses.

Over the past decade, I have experienced a transformational amount of highs and lows from romances to finances, however, there has always been one constant I have been able to lean on for support; that’s yoga. This ancient practice has radically transformed my life from the inside out, allowing me to strengthen and heal my body, reclaim power over my mind, and no longer suffer from stress, anxiety, and depression. Now I dedicate my time and energy to helping others experience this for themselves. This is my soul’s unique service.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being in the Pacific Northwest (PNW), it’s a must we spend some time outdoors! The summers in Washington are second to none, at least in the lower 48. We’ll do the Olympic Loop, the most scenic 8-hour drive I’ve ever been on. The Olympic National Forest is home to the Hoh Rainforest, one of the quietest places on earth! The drive to various other parts of the national forest includes a drive along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean and concludes with a ferry ride across the water where we are met with the Seattle skyline, which is best on a late summer night.

I enjoy giving guests a city tour on the Link Rail when visiting Seattle. Although Seattle is not large in size, there is so much to explore. Each area of town has it’s own culture, which means there is a ton of food to eat! Visiting Pike Place Market, enjoying a Korean rice hot dog in Chinatown, watching a summer sunset with a mocktail at a local rooftop bar, and experiencing a late-night Seattle Dog in Capitol Hill, are just a few must-dos.

And what’s a Washington summer without getting on the water? Especially during Seafair Weekend featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and Hydroplane races!

However, it’s only fair that I mention this; the summers are breathtakingly beautiful and we take full advantage of our 15+ hours of sunlight because the vast majority of the year is the exact opposite.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The person who deserves the greatest shoutout is my Disco Ball, KJ! She is my absolute favorite expression of the Divine. She wears many hats in my life. She’s my romantic partner, we are business partners, and she’s my best friend.

Our relationship is a safe space for us both to make mistakes, to be scared, to express frustrations, and to dream. We inspired and supported one another to leave our secure careers and to take a chance on ourselves.

We have been side by side during the darkest days of our transitions in life and business, to the red carpets and flashing lights of our successes, Now, we are traveling, teaching, and performing together, witnessing our wildest dreams unfold in front of one another. When you and another individual choose to support one another in your visions by holding each other accountable from a place of love, you know you’ve found a solid partner! I am closer to my Soul because of her presence in my life. Thank you, babygirl!
