We had the good fortune of connecting with Trinity Alaina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trinity, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since childhood, I have been a creative person. I have always had a large imagination and wanted to pursue careers like being an astronomer to discover the unknown, a meteorologist to share parts of our world, and a musician to be able to connect with people no matter the distance. Music took over my life and has become one of its best parts.

The first song I ever learned to sing was ‘Hey There Delilah’ by the Plain White T’s because my mom was always playing it and singing around the house. My dad plays the guitar and is also a creative person with a passion for music. They are one of the reasons music has been such a constant in my life and showed me how much of a gift it is from a young age.

Moving into my teenage years I found myself wanting an outlet to express my emotions and began writing lyrics. The songwriting process and connection to others feels so special to me and what drives me to want to create music. I’ve always known that a part of me would be missing if I didn’t try to pursue music. Nothing will ever be able to come close to the feeling I have when performing, whether it’s in my bedroom or on stage. This magical feeling fuels me with passion and drives me to take steps to achieve my musical goals every day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself a singer/songwriter/artist who makes pop music. I first derived inspiration from Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez in their Disney Channel era. Watching them sing their original songs and perform inspired four-year-old me to begin performing for my family and friends. Since then, artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, and Olivia Rodrigo have been incredible influences on me.

I grew up moving around the world. My dad’s work allowed my family and I to live in countries like Cameroon, Ukraine, and South Africa, which has allowed me to appreciate multiple cultures and meet so many different kinds of people. My mom is also Mexican/American and I have grown up immersed in Mexican culture. I try to incorporate these life experiences into my music. While my music isn’t too experimental, I like to include elements of the cultures I’ve experienced. For example, one of my songs, ‘It’s Cool’, is based around a Latin drum rhythm.

I released my first song, ‘Watching You Bleed’, in 2021 at 16 years old. It was the first time I had experienced the process of writing, recording, and releasing. I still love this song and I am happy that it is a piece of art that represents that time of my life. I made mistakes because I didn’t know much about the music industry then. When releasing my next songs, I will focus more on the industry’s business side, especially strategies for promoting the music, which is something I did not do when releasing this song.

I have had many struggles in my pursuit of music. I moved from Pretoria, South Africa to Atlanta, Georgia the summer before my senior year of high school. I was not ready to let go of my past life and hung onto it for so long. I fell into a sort of depression and it limited my ability to write lyrics and even sing. I chose to leave Georgia after I graduated high school and moved to Los Angeles to pursue music as well as being a music student. I have learned to let go of things that are not serving me and have been able to thrive here in Los Angeles.

I am super excited for this next chapter in my life. I am working with a producer to record four new songs and will begin putting out new music before the end of 2024. I am ready to share the past two years of my life with the world. If my music can speak to at least one other person, I feel like I have made it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is one of the most beautiful cities full of love and life. While I still love to be a tourist here, there are so many spots I have been able to experience that have become my favorites. The Griffith Observatory is always a classic place to visit. The first day I moved to Los Angeles I got off the plane and went to the Observatory. There is no other place like it.

I love the beach. I have always dreamed of living near the ocean and living here in Los Angeles is a dream. I often find myself at the Santa Monica Pier or Venice Beach. They are filled with so much life. I love to walk around and people-watch. There is always something new to see. I also love the Malibu beaches. The sunsets are always perfect.

One place that I have to give a shoutout to is Esco’s Pizza. I first found this restaurant by walking down Melrose and looking for food and Esco’s happened to be around the corner. Not only is the restaurant design so cool, transporting you into New York City when entering, but they also have incredible pizza. I had my birthday party there last year!

Spending a Sunday at the thrift markets around town, like the Melrose Trading Post, would also be an activity I would 100% take a guest to do. I love to walk around and find hidden charms.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love the phrase, ‘I am a mosaic of everyone I’ve ever loved, even for a heartbeat.’ Every time I read this quote it fills me with so much emotion, all the good, all the bad, all the love. I feel as if every single person I have met has helped shape me in a way and I love the fact that that’s what makes me who I am.

My mom is someone who has always loved and supported me unconditionally. She is the strongest, silliest, and most loving person I know and I’m so lucky to have her guidance through life.

My sister, Avery, and my brother, Devin, are my best friends and some of my biggest supporters as well. I love them so much and they make me want to strive for the best in every day of my life.

My dad, Nana, Papa, Stef, Aunt Tanya, Uncle Mario, Sophia, Valerie, Vendy, Nedda, Sarah, Nai, and Isaiah are all inspirations to me and I have so much love for everyone. I would not be who I am today without them.
