We had the good fortune of connecting with Tsion Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tsion, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My balance has definitely come a long way from how it was before versus now. I was once one of those artists that can get so focused on their work to the point where I would work to complete a project no matter how long it took me even if it meant I was up for 22 hours straight to complete it. I would even forget to eat sometimes because I was so determined to complete whatever I was working on. Of course, I know now, that is very unhealthy and can and has lead to burnout.

The stage I am at now, I am much more intentional about taking the breaks I need without feeling guilty (still working on this part). My peace, mental health, and physical health are very much a priority these days. So I have to be strategic about my time management and making sure I am practicing self-care as needed.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the things that sets me aside from others is that I am authentically me. I am very much so a what you see is what you get individual. I am never trying to be something I am not.

I am most proud of how far I’ve come with my fashion designs. I am self-taught so seeing how my designs started versus how they are now, I am often shocked and grateful.

I got to where I am today professionally by remaining consistent and making a decision that this is what I was going to do in life and I will work as hard as I need to continue to elevate in my craft and scale my brand.

It definitely was not easy. There were so many bumps in the road and still is. But my resilience, faith in the most high, working toward creating generational wealth, and belief in my God given gifts is what keeps me going.

Some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way are as follows to name a few:
1. Do it scared!
2. Outside opinions don’t validate you
3. Never give up
4. Don’t announce things you’re doing until it’s already done because outside energies can sometimes affect those plans
5. Be about that action and not just a talker!

I want the world to know that my brand comes from true authenticity. The goal of whomever wear’s my designs is to make them Look and Feel Like Royalty when they put on a Tsion Tyeese piece. My work is also inspired by architecture, so fabric and clothing are like my canvas and how I express myself. Each piece is one of a kind or very small quantities made to keep the exclusivity of the brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely have to check out Hollywood Blvd to see the Walk of Fame and all the Stars, we’d check out a few cool lounged in the area. We would go hiking at Runyon Canyon and at Culver City Stairs. We would also go to Santa Monica Pier and enjoy the boardwalk and some fun rides. LA Live in Downtown LA would lay a visit. Because I’m a Fashion Designer I’d take them to the Fashion District to show them my stomping grounds. We would also check out the Pike in Long Beach. We’d also takes some drives, up to Santa Barbara for wine tasting, then down to San Diego for one of my favorite breakfast places and the vibes!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d definitely have to shoutout my family and my close friends. There was so many times throughout my journey where I thought about quitting and saying forget it due to the adversities and uncertainties of my industry, but due to the love, supoort, and constant encouragement from my friends and family, I stuck with it! I owe them all the world. They know who they are 😉
