We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Seller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
In the Music and Entertainment Industries, when you start and even throughout your journey you have to be a hustler. The most important factor to my success personally is being strong mentally with the mentality that if I want to do something so badly I will find a way no matter what. It leads into the idea many creatives agree on, which is how everyone hustles to what is next and gets excited. However, if you don’t understand where you came from and your come up, you will have trouble finding where you are going. These industries are the most rewarding, competitive, and unpredictable in the world with the most amount of people trying to carry out that dream. The pace is fast, and stuff unexpectedly happens. Without staying strong with that mentality I would of gave up contacting people to get into shows, sneaking in to shows to build my portfolio and be given that one opportunity that not many people get and if you do get it, many don’t appreciate it enough. Being 20 years old these industries and working in them helped me mature and realize what I am doing as a job which just feels like relaxing with my best friends at a concert. Growing up I listened to these artists like Lil Tjay, Tiesto, NAV and many more, and now I get to work alongside them a couple years later. Originally 3 years ago right before COVID started, my mind was already made up, I was going to school in Canada to become an Engineer and work at MIT. COVID hit and I started to make little videos and edits with friends messing around during quarantine. I started to get really serious about it and overtime started to pursue film and photography more than engineering. That is when this mindset developed and I was watching the top 10 concerts all time and all these recaps and I was so determined to be right there covering it. The mindset of if there is a will there is a way has led to record label internships, touring, meeting and becoming friends with long time idols of mine within 3 years. COVID was the best thing to every happen to myself as a person and who I want to be and I really wouldn’t of even held a camera or edited videos without a global pandemic. It really shows you can truly be whoever you want to be whenever you want at whatever age. In addition, I believe when you are younger, you get exposed to more opportunities and I believe everyone should take on every given one and learn from them good or bad, because it can shape who you want to become and motivate you. I wouldn’t be where I am today without hard work and the will to accomplish something. As cliché as that sounds growing up you roll your eyes, but at some point you really do understand what they meant after sacrifices and ideas you have to accomplish something.

What should our readers know about your business?
My company Masshole Media was founded to have a collective of creatives with a great work ethic and mindset that if they want to do something that bad, that there is always a way. We use our mentors connections to collectively cover and work for events in the music and entertainment industry like concerts, tours and festivals. Our platform gives creatives the opportunity to gain field work with artists and other creatives in the industry that schools and teachers don’t provide. The great thing about our company is with social media, we see creatives from all over the world and love their work, so its a community that we can just become friends with, without meeting, all over a mutual passion. Our creatives are people from around the world that have connected with our collective and creators previously, which is crazy to think we can help a guy who loves our work and wants to work with us all the way in Tokyo. All these creatives are so talented and so young and supportive of every single person we work with and for. Apart from the actually filming and editing aspect me and other mentors in my company give creatives tips on how to hustle, deal with issues professionally, and how to present yourself and your value to gain a client. All the information I got was through my experiences and it was free, why should I gatekeep free information? We all understand Creators Support Creators and that nothing in life can’t be done alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am from a little town from right outside of Boston called Swampscott. A 3 square miles right along the water with insane views. If my best friend came to visit cameras would be out the whole time doing some beach walks even a little paddleboarding on the coast. Salem right next door to me is the town where the witch hunt of 1692 happened and today it is also the Halloween capitol of the world. Of course we would be travelling to Boston to catch a couple Bruins games and eat the best seafood in the world. Boston Seafood and Italian is no joke. Barking Crab the best seafood place on the planet. You got Trattoria Il Panino the best pasta I’ve ever had and was hit down right next door at Mike’s Pastry with the best cannoli and pastries. Boston of course has a lot of history which is cool to get into like Paul Revere, the oldest Navy ship is in Boston from 1797, and you can consider Fenway Park a cool part of history. Boston is a city that you can live here your whole life, It would be a fun week in Boston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Daniel Calderone. A Director, Writer, and Filmer out of Toronto. He is a wise creative who has endless advice and experience in the industry of film. One of the greatest friendships I have and best guy to lean on for advice as we share the same exact mindset and mentality. He installed the purpose of story telling into me. Even though I do concert recaps and he does short films, he said filmmaking is a universal language. Even if you are doing a video recapping a concert or watching something without sound or language barrier, you should be able to comprehend a story and understand it. Without his storytelling abilities, his mindset and friendship, I would not be making as meaningful videos to my audiences.
