We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyran Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyran, how do you think about risk?
Risk Taking is everything to me. One of the things I always admired about my Grandfather who raised me was the fact that he decided to take his family from what was considered a comfortable life in Mobile, Alabama and move my dad and uncles to Los Angeles in the 1960s. I have always been a very bold person and a person who liked to try to rise to the occasion. When I was 8 years old I played in a 10-11 year old division of basketball and probably had the biggest mouth on my team. I liked having a target on my back. It’s only right that I went to college in Las Vegas. You risk big, you wig. If you lose, make your adjustments and pick yourself up.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It’s funny! asking a creative person what separates them from others will probably inspire the most uncreative answer, but honestly, it’s my individuality. Everything I do stems from my thoughts, experiences, traumas, joys, memories, and ideas. There is not a soul on Earth who can tell my perspective better than me. Some of the accomplishments I’m most proud of are having a top 200 song as an independent artist while I was getting my feet wet, being able to help some of the biggest stars work on their project, and being placed in a position to have residual income for the rest of my life, no matter how small are big those checks are, It definitely was not easy at all and it still isn’t easy in my mid 30s, but honestly I did not take this path expecting it to be easy, and I can honestly say I was built to weather any storm. So when it’s going great, I don’t get too over excited, and when it’s slow, I keep myself moving. I overcome all challenges by accepting that I have placed myself on this path. Luckily for me, I’m not measuring my success by the industry’s expectations and I’m not placing a subconscious expiration date on myself. I will take this journey as far as I can and learn and adjust anyplace myself in the best position possible. Then I’ll die LOL. The main lesson I learned along the way is you can never really sit there and take somebody’s word as gold even if their intentions are pure. There are no guarantees at all and you can’t let disappointment weigh too heavily on you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If they are flying into LAX we are on my side of town so we have start with the hood spots. I’m gonna take you right to Serving Spoon then Roscoe’s so I can let you see which one is actually better. Then I’m gonna make them try Phillip’s and Woody’s and see which one they like better LOL. I would honestly pretty much show them the difference of being a regular person born in LA vs someone who comes here as an adult. One of my favorite beaches to go to is Playa Vista because it’s more laid back. Of course I would have to take them tp Venice and Santa Monica just so they can see hoe extra’s out they are LOL. I would have to introduce them to all of the different areas of the city and see which parts they vibe with. I grew up most comfortable from South Central to Inglewood to West LA. Those are the areas I know like the back of my hand. I have lived on the other side near the Valley since 2017 and have gotten acclimated to this side of town recently, and I have never spent any time over here in my life. I would take them to all of the beach cities, DTLA, Echo Park, Beverly Hills and all areas of the city and see where their personality fits and we would go from there. As a creative person, I like being in Studio City and Noho because I feel like the outcast over here. Most of my peers that live here are from somewhere else really pushing themselves so it keeps me energized in a sense. Us Cali natives can tend to burst people’s bubble when they are excited to do things we have been overlooking since we were in Elementary. I’m at that stage in life where I like to people watch and draw creative ideas, so I can find interesting people everywhere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Dedicated to anybody who has taught me anything that has helped me progress, anyone who has supported, and anyone who has inspired me along the way.
