Meet Valentin Correa Mallmann | Music producer & Engineer & Sound Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Valentin Correa Mallmann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Valentin, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Before deciding to study and pursue music abroad, I remember reading Mark Manson’s quote, “We can be truly successful only at things we are willing to fail at. If we are unwilling to fail, then we are unwilling to succeed.” This belief became a guiding light for me. It reminded me that failure isn’t the opposite of success but a necessary part of the journey. Embracing this mindset gave me the courage to step into the unknown, trust my passion, and believe in myself, even when the path felt uncertain. I understood that no matter what I decided to pursue in life, I would fail regardless in the beginning, so why not fail at something that I love and get better at it?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art changes within its environment and is rooted in the diverse musical influences I grew up with. From my mom’s car CD collection, ranging from The Beatles to early 2000s European dance music, to the sounds I discovered on my own. This blend of genres shaped me and inspired me to create music that bridges acoustic and electronic elements. My project, Vantin, which started in high school and the name I still use to release and perform music with, covers a large part of my musical journey from its beginnings to where I find myself now. From making music on my own in my room in Buenos Aires to collaborating with other artists in a professional music studio. After getting over a million streams for a beat I made in 2018 when I first started to learn to produce and record my guitar playing in Ableton Live, I decided to keep exploring music production and my potential.
When I moved across the continent to California to study Music Technology at CalArts, I would often ask myself if I was talented enough to be there. But by embracing risk and proving myself that I can do the job, I gained confidence to say yes to more. I got the opportunity to grow and meet incredible like-minded people and collaborators. By learning Audio Engineering, Sound Design, and Film Scoring, I was able to expand my artistic horizons and do things like record my string quartet arrangement, mix a movie in surround sound, and master my music. I even had the opportunity to compose for a Walt Disney’s Modular theatre play, “Fefu and Friends” in 2024, be a guest lecturer for a music production class, and make ambient music with water and sensors.
After experimenting with a variety of genres, I currently find myself producing House music inspired by the summer sounds of my hometown, Punta Del Este, located in Uruguay. In 2024, my track “Eterna” was released on John Tejada’s compilation album under UK label “Touched Music”, with proceeds going to cancer charity. This inspired me to start performing professionally as a DJ and to later release “Momentum” under LA-based label “Anadigma Records”.
DJing in the LA scene at venues like MAD Gallery, Delicious Pizza, Social Desert Festival, Sassafras Saloon, and Songbird Cafe has been a rewarding way to connect with audiences and share my sound. Being a member and co-founder of LA-based DJ Collective “HALO” has been an exciting journey for me and the community. Lately, I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with talented artists such as Salgado, Rafi and Emma Somi, including a feature on the recently released track ‘BHERE.’ I’m also excited to share that I have an upcoming project to be released with Argentinian Indie Rock artist Loren, which I’m eagerly looking forward to, as well as working on more projects as a Music Producer, Mixing Engineer, Sound Designer, or DJ.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As soon as you land, we grab a meal at the In-N-Out right next to LAX, but don’t forget to put your suitcase in the trunk of the car if you are going inside. After mentally preparing that we are going to be in traffic for hours, I highly recommend catching a sunset at either Griffith Park or Malibu, north of El Matador Beach. Even Venice Beach is fun during golden hour. For going out, I recommend any event from DubLab, Hal0 Station or venues like Sound or Exchange LA. The Hollywood Bowl is phenomenal to go to a concert. Once you realize you are in GTA and you start to crave nature, I would take you to a good hike, “Topanga Lookout Trailhead” and use some of the days of the trip to drive to Joshua Tree National Park, its surreal desert landscapes and starlit skies are worth the journey.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to the people who have supported and inspired me. First, to Hernan Cattaneo, the legendary Argentinian DJ and producer, who has been a constant source of inspiration and guidance. From my very first compositions and performances back in high school, he took the time to offer encouragement. He continues to provide feedback on my music, pushing me to grow and refine my craft. I also want to thank Juan Pablo Negrete, owner of Melrose Sound Studios, who facilitated my first foot in the door of the LA music industry by offering me an internship at the studio. A special shoutout to my guitar teacher from high school, Leo Leonardi, who not only taught me the fundamentals of music but also introduced me to the world of Radiohead.
And lastly, to my amazing mother for supporting my adventure abroad.
