Meet Vanessa Torres | Lifestyle Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My maternal grandfather was a film photographer in his hometown in Michoacan, Mexico. I grew up around a camera but always avoided being in front of one. It wasn’t until I was older that I decided to pick a camera up and never put it down again. I feel like I am continuing my grandfather’s legacy.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
This all began as a hobby. I never intended to get where I am today. My husband and dad split a camera bill for Christmas in 2014 and that’s when I began taking photos of my family and sharing them on my personal instagram. Shortly after, people began asking me for sessions and what started as a hobby ended up becoming a full time business and now an LLC. I have recently started my Photo Booth business (@beamingphotobooth).

My motto has always been, fake it til you make it.
I recently began to value my work and stopped underselling myself.

I face different challenges daily, but my love and passion for photography has always been greater than the obstacles I’ve faced.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born and raised in Long Beach, so I would definitely stop by Shoreline Village for some funnel cakes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband is my biggest hype man along with my siblings and parents.
