We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to become a Nail Artist for a few reasons. The first being that it is a great way of creating a space for people to come and get a relaxing, fun service, and to express themselves in nail art. I get to meet so many new people from all over the San Fernando Valley and L.A. It’s always exciting to get to meet someone new who’s looking for what I do and the products I specialize in. Another reason is the artistic aspect that comes with being a Nail Artist. My clients are always bringing in some amazing inspiration and it’s exciting to go through and coordinate with them and create something custom just for them. A third reason is always the opportunity to express yourself with your hands, it’s a nice outlet to express your mood or your style without it being permanent, after 3-4 weeks, you get to change your nails again and have art that is completely different each time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Last June I opened my studio, Nails by Ness, in Sherman Oaks, specializing in natural nail care and premium gel . Like any business, there’s always a risk that it won’t go far or that you may not do so well. I’ve been blessed with great clients who continue to enjoy my services and share my information with their friends and always recommend me to others. It brings me so much joy to see my business thrive and grow this last year, I know that I’ve come a long way since starting my career in 2019. Some lessons that I’ve learned throughout this past year are to be patient, the growth of owning a business is to continue working towards your goal, its not easy being organized, but if you do organize your work will get easier, and it’s okay to say no. Opening my studio has provided me the opportunity to share my work with more people and to create a safe space to share and express yourself, all while getting a great alternative manicure while you’re here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in town are scattered, but are a must. The first place to eat would need to be Grande Casino in Culver City, they have the best empanadas and it’s a battle to choose between the spinach empanada or the ham and cheese. The best places to check out are the museums we have here in L.A. I’m a big fan of the Natural History Museum, they have a butterfly exhibit that is great to experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Jaime, and my family are always my number one support system. They’re the ones that give me the support I need to run my studio and to continue educating myself in all things nails, business, and life. My clients are also such a great support, they are always hyping me up just as I do for them and appreciate their trust in my skills, especially the first ones who have been with me since the beginning.
