We had the good fortune of connecting with Verlon Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Verlon, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe there can be no success without risk. The universe rewards hard work you throw on a dash of risk and the universe smiles for you. In my life I have welcomed risk in and we have built a great partnership. To give you an example several years ago my wife and I were both working jobs we did not like. I had recently gotten out of the Marine Corps and we had moved to Seattle. I had always wanted to be an actor but had never taking any steps or risked anything to work towards. One day I was talking to someone about childhood dreams. The next day I was turning in my two week notice and seeking out an acting school. I was ready to risk. My wife had also wanted to start her own wellness company. She was ready to risk. We did that we sold our home and moved to Los Angeles and are on a journey to achieve huge dreams. We risk everyday for these dreams. The universe has noticed and slowly started smiling upon us. Even during the pandemic we still risked. We had always talked about starting our own camper van rental business to give people the opportunity to explore our beautiful world and connect with nature and build memories. In the middle of the pandemic we decided to purchase our first van and we started renting it and it had been very successful. The risk we took is worth it every time we see the smiling faces heading out on an adventure. The universe even rewarded me heavily when one of our renters turned out to be a major casting director! RISK Let’s go!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was a little boy that loved to play with my imagination. It was all I had really. I lived in a very small town being raised my a terminally ill mother that sacrificed everything for us to make it. We struggled but we always survived. I wanted to be an actor and comedian but there was no path to that dream for me. I joined the Marine Corps because growing up without a father I felt I was missing so many traits I needed. I enjoyed the military life style and needed up staying in to make a career out of it. Upon getting out I started teaching high school. One day after speaking to a student about their dreams my chidhood dreams came back alive stronger that’s ever. I had to pursue them, no you don’t understand I HAD TO. After that conversation with my amazing wife I started my journey. It is not easy to reinvent yourself after so much living but I was determined. I have hit many obstacle along the way but I stayed confident and focused. We only have one life ONE go at this. One of the biggest lessons I have learned along the way is that most everything you need comes from within you have to find it and that can be challenging. We all have so much light and energy inside us and finding it can be challenging but when you can tap into it….mmmmmmmmmmm. I want everyone to know and realize that you can whatever that thing is that you have always wanted to do, or achieve It’s possible. Start right now today. You CAN.

I am also very happy to share that my hard work, dedication, and risk taking has paid off. I have had some major wins recently booking an AT&T National Commercial that is currently running. I voiced and did the motion capture for Spartan Griffin a badass character in the upcoming release of Halo Infinite. I also recently did some stunt work on the feature film Searching 2. Stay tuned I feel another big win on the horizon!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s go! I would start the day with a nice morning hike maybe Griffith park, or Runyon canyon we would tackle it at a fast pace to get a good workout as well. At the top have conversation sharing some memories from childhood which would be funny because I had a pretty crazy childhood with interesting friends.

We would get cleaned up and grab some lunch in Malibu at the Broad Street Oyster Company because seafood is the best and it’s a cool view and vibe. Also they are paying so I’m eating up majorly!

Then relax at the beach for a bit maybe meditate do some breath work.

Then get cleaned up and plan either a night at The Comedy Store for some great laughs, or see what is happening in the theatre scene maybe catch a show (would be nice if there was a Sam Shepard play in town he is my favorite!)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people come to mind. I have to recognize the United States Marine Corps for instilling in me many qualities that I lacked. The biggest being self confidence everyday I am thankful for the tools I have to build confidence. Confidence is like a muscle you have to work it to build it.

Of course my wife Stefanie for all of her support. I mean what wife says yes when her husband comes home and says I want to quit my job go to acting school and become an actor? We had also recently had twins! Hello RISK!!! I love her so much she is simply amazing and strong.

Also have to recognize Amanda Bearse who was my acting teacher at the Seattle Film Institute. I had grown up watching Amanda on Married with Children and loved what she brought to the show. When I found out she would be teaching at the Institute I was so happy. She was a great teacher that really helped me to find the little kid in me again and find my play. I will always cherish the time I spent learning from her.

Like I said so many people. I also have to recognize The Lee Strasberg Institute where I am currently taking acting classes. It is a special place filled with so much energy and magic. Every single teacher I have had the opportunity to learn from care so very much about each student. It is truly a place to create and grow and find places in yourself you have never been to.

Most recently I have found a special group called the 10,000 no’s insiders community. The actor Mathew Del Negro started the group after his book 10,000 no’s. The group is supportive and caring, and filled with like minded people all workers towards a goal. We lift each other up talk though bumps along the way. Matt has created something unique there and we meet every week and the insiders community has helped me stay on track and continuing to get back up after each no.
