We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Roy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veronica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting this campaign went as such:

-Scrolling through my favorite author’s Instagram (Patricia Briggs @mercys.garage) and seeing the announcement that her Mercy Thompson Series has been optioned by Amazon Prime.

-Jumps with joy & excitement

-Remembers the story of how Elijah Wood got the role of Frodo.

-Looks up full interview (highly recommend btw) and is re-inspired by his proactive fire to go after the role that he wanted and not to just sit by the phone.

-Interview ends and my brain says “Done and done.”

-With the advice of my business coach and producer friends, I began the undertaking of fully producing scenes I adapted from the book.

-Simultaneously, begin training the fight and working out.

-After filming, the 3 month social media campaign (Jan-Mar) begins with the purpose of getting the word out there and to grab Amazon Prime’s attention.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think an aspect of me that allows for me to stand out is my joy. I have such a love for people and for story telling that I become energized when I get to work with both! I am incredibly proud of the friends that I am surrounded by. Working along side them in the trenches of the Independent Film world has been such a joy. Knowing that we are all working towards the same goal and excited to pull each other up with us as we rise. That’s a big lesson I’ve learned in this industry. It takes a Village.

The other lesson, I learned before even stepping foot on Hollywood soil. “This will be a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t go to LA expecting to become an overnight success. Take your time.” ( Thank you Mark Paladini! ) I entered into the Entertainment Industry with open eyes and a readiness to put in my 10,000 hours. That expectation of the long haul, my relationship with God, and my willingness to not wait for the phone to ring has served me through the ups and downs of this journey in Hollywood. It’s been said many times before but there really are seasons of plenty and seasons of drought in this industry. Learning early on how to manage yourself during both is vital because its not a question of IF you’ll experience both seasons but WHEN. ‘Future You’ will thank you, for not being caught unprepared when it happens.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Oh man! I love giving recommendations!!! LA is such a great city for exploring and finding little hole in the wall places. So here are some eclectic recs you have to check out!

1. Leo’s Taco Truck. Find one.
2. Speakeasies! I love finding them (i.e. No Vacancy, Sunset & Vinyl)
3. Boba Cha Cha in North Hollywood (hole in the wall but some of the BEST boba I’ve found)
4. Greystone Mansion is quite gorgeous. Great IG pic options.
5. A show at the Hollywood Bowl! Sooooo good.
6. Art & Wine walk in DTLA Arts District.
7. Little Tokyo – also in DTLA.
8. Melrose Place for a casual stroll with lattes and window shopping in the high fashion stores.
9. Sunday Open Air Market at Fairfax High School.
10. Craig’s in Melrose for Celebrity People watching.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh goodness, there are so many names. It really does take a Village to reach a goal and I am overwhelmed with gratitude with how my Community showed up for me in such beautiful ways. (And still are!)
