Meet VHSUPERNOVA | Pop duo

We had the good fortune of connecting with VHSUPERNOVA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi VHSUPERNOVA, how do you think about risk?
Well… when we started with our first single “D+” we wanted to make a club anthem: and we did it! After this song we experimented new sounds playing with different genres but being true to ourself. Our composing and writing style is still very focused with VHSUPERNOVA’s pop project but we like to influence our songs with several kind of music. So we made some reggaeton tunes as “zen” and “DUE SECONDI DI NULLA”, or more trap based songs as “roulette”, “ascendente” or “vis-à-vis”; as we told you we really like house and dance music, that’s why we wrote and composed “D+”, “io non piango mai…”, “Savoir Faire” and “ALCOOOL TEST”! On January 2023 we put all our songs together on our first album “SOTTOCASSA”, including some classic rock ballads as “finita la festa” or more electronic nuanced as “rimango” and “origami”.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are a pop duo performance based, we love to play on stage our music. That’s why we did lots of gigs around the world, we played in Italy and USA and opened for several big artists as Jess Glynn and Elodie. We make music for ourself and we hope people can get involved in our sound, so we can dance and sing and cry together! When we produce a new track we always think about how it will perform live, so we can enjoy the moment with the crowd! We are really influenced by different kind of music around the world; and we have a question for the readers: can you guess and identify at least one genre we put in our first album “SOTTOCASSA”?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We will answer separately because, even if we both live in Milan rn, we are from different cities:

Giulia from Milan:
You can start from Duomo and for lunch you can eat panzerotti at Luini’s, if you wanna try some street food experience. Then you can go to Piazza Castello and Parco Sempione to have a chill moment by yourself. In the night you can have dinner with aperitivo or apericena in Navigli and Darsena, then go to drink in some pub: you can choose from Porta Venezia, Città Studi/Lambrate or Porta Romana.

Cal from Sciacca:
If you come to Sciacca (and you have to, at least once in life!), you have to visit Sciacca, my hometown, go by the sea, eat some fresh fish at Porto San Paolo or La Cambusa and lemon granita at Aurelio’s Bar Roma. Then try some arancine, ravazzate and panino with panelle, visit Castello Incantato and Monte San Calogero and you can finish your day with some good cocktails in the city center in a vintage southern atmosphere! *Chef kiss*

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our first supporter was italian writer Isabella Santacroce; we opened for her “Supernova”‘s book showcase in Milan, Rome and Bologna so we decided to tribute her in our name: that’s why we called VHSUPERNOVA (mixing “VHS” + “Supernova”: we always loved vintage, and we were born in the 90s). We also have to give credit to our families and friends, because they always believed in us and in the strenght of our project.
