We had the good fortune of connecting with Vian Borchert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve been a multidisciplinary artist for many years, even decades, an accomplished artist that has shown in museums and key galleries in major cities throughout the years. As of late, I’ve been wanting to do something that goes beyond the successful artist that I’ve become – something more than me. So, I started my own cultural platform and online gallery “VB Contemporary” (www.vb-contemporary.com) to discover and showcase talented artists from all over the world via my platform through curated exhibitions and art articles. My gallery’s first inauguration group exhibition titled “Beginnings” exemplifies this sentiment where I present the works of multifaceted artists and photographers from all levels and from varying cities such as LA, NYC, Washington DC, London and Germany. I also felt the universe was pushing me in so many ways in this direction. I felt that I’ve managed to make my dreams become possible, and feel now it’s time to collaborate and help foster the dreams of other creatives, and together build something bigger and more unifying of the artistic experience. In such, my vision for my business is the building of a healthy creative community of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to their art and vision much like myself working together in creating a very strong visual impact in the art world. As the director and curator of “VB Contemporary”, my motto for my business is quality over quantity where I present through my platform stellar artists and their amazing artwork that I deem vital and necessary in shaping the contemporary art scene.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
For years I’ve been a professional artist creating paintings that exemplify my vision through abstract expressionist seascapes and landscapes by which I aim to bring the viewer to a higher and more peaceful state where harmony and rejuvenation reign supreme. I have seen throughout the latest years accomplishments and success in my art career through prestigious exhibits in museums and key galleries world-wide along seeing my art in world-leading auctions + marketplaces and being collected not only by private collectors but also by corporations, embassies and hospitals. With absolute gratitude, I feel grateful for every step that moved me forward in my career. This gratitude in return made me look inward to ways of how I can also be a helping hand in making others’ dreams come to pass. Consequently, my virtual gallery and cultural platform “VB Contemporary” was erected as means for artists who I find their vision / art to be crucial to come together via my platform and presented to the world. I feel the road of an independent artist is quite the solitary one, and with this collaborative endeavor, my approach is to unite and build a better world through the visionaries that I discover and present via my business highlighting not only talented artists but good people who are making the world a better place through their vision and art. Moreover, “VB Contemporary” is open to all artists to submit their work so I can continuously discover and help promote new talented artists to a a global market through my platform. www.vb-contemporary.com Of course, it took many years for me to get to this point, And, yes I had to overcome many challenges and pull myself together to be stronger in every step I took towards a better version of who I am. By personality trait, I am one who takes risks and pushes myself to continuously evolve beyond the status quo working in so many aspects to keep learning and growing within my life. For sure, I’ve made lots of mistakes throughout my journey, but they all helped me see better what not to do anymore so to speak. I feel I’ve reached a good stage now where I can say that I was blind in certain situations but life lessons opened my eyes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA is a gem of a city like no other. It offers so much natural beauty along with fun activities and venues in every direction so to speak. I am a nature lover, so a walk by the beach is definitely a must. Taking in the sunset in all its glory while the sun sets along the horizon of the Pacific ocean is a sight to see almost on a daily basis. So, simply parking one’s car and just going out to sit and watch this spectacle is a joy by itself. Santa Monica is one of my favorite areas within LA. Thus, eating out in one of the many restaurants and they are all good on Ocean Ave such as “Red O” which offers delectable Mexican food along with great hospitality and service is a fun experience. Driving through LA to see not only its amazing venues but its uphill curvy roads and their overlooks is a must. A drive in the Hollywood Hills to see the Hollywood sign is a definite must as well. There are so many historic houses that celebrate mid-century architecture which I love, Pacific Palisades has a number of amazing architectural gems. In regards to museums, the Getty Center is also a must-see for visitors, taking the tram up the mountain and seeing LA’s canyons is a good introduction to the geography and terrain of the area. And of course, the Venice canals are something else, a stroll within the canals is very amusing. I find a drive towards Malibu is like a drive in the countryside but by the seaside. I like the ruggedness of the Malibu look that offer so much in terms of natural beauty for the avid nature lovers such as myself

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, that’s absolutely true! One hand doesn’t clap by itself, you need another hand to have both clap together 🙂 In other words, one good hand deserves another. My business started in a sense by this intense gravitational pull of the universe where there were so many signs and even some red alerts that the universe was throwing my way from multiple directions that I absolutely couldn’t ignore. Consequently, I had to veer towards the new direction and endeavor that I am currently in. My family and especially my husband saw the suffering and the distressing situations I had encountered. And, he felt he had to take action to make my life happier, healthier and more fulfilling. Therefore, he gifted me my virtual gallery + online platform set-up since he believed in my abilities not only as a visionary artist but also as a curator. My husband reasoning is he sees that I make it possible for the people who collaborate with me to be raised to a higher level of betterment and flourishment. Moreover, as he nicely puts it, whatever I touch turns into gold. I like to believe him; but it’s true, I have noticed throughout my career those who I’ve collaborated with benefited highly form my expertise and managed to achieve substantial accomplishments due to having my vison as a guiding light in their careers and lives. Also, my two adult children have been very encouraging of my entrepreneurial spirit as well. In regards to books, I feel “Big Panda and Tiny Dragon” by James Norbury also stresses on the importance of good people in ones lives. The ones that stay with you through thick and thin, and uplift and cheer you on in life, these are the ones that are worth keeping. At the end, companionship, courage, tenderness, and good company are really the essence of a life full of love and appreciation. Meditation as well has helped open up portals within my mind where evolvement and elevation towards a better version of who I am developed via mediative practices and self-reflection which eventually led to self-love and healing.
