We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoire Douy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victoire, why did you pursue a creative career?
I was lucky growing up with a family that encouraged me to create in every shape or form possible. Everyone around me was creative. I’ve been blessed with a twin who also loved to draw, and we could spend entire days drawing and inventing stories. I think this helped me later in life to pursue a creative career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently a senior designer in a big agency. I was lucky to get the job after I graduated from my master’s degree. I think what made my profile interesting at that time was that I don’t focus only on interactive design -which is my specialty- but I do many other things, like illustration, art direction. The agency world can be challenging at times because the work is demanding, and you need to reinvent yourself on every project and said projects are always so different. It’s also what I love about what I do, but it comes with some stress, at times.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I think I would start with a day in Venice, walking around the cute little houses, along the canals. Then go for a yoga class, Love Yoga Venice. After all that effort I would go to the cutest coffee shop: Flower Boy! Probably take a matcha or their lavender drink. Then maybe some shopping in Abbott Kinney. If budget allows, maybe a stop at Erewhon for some snacks. Then I would also explore East L.A with maybe a brunch in Silverlake at Bacari. Then a cheeky walk, and I would take my friends to a cute bookstore, Skylight Books is adorable. But my favorite is the Last bookstore in DTLA, always so unique.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was lucky to grow up with a twin sister, Chloé, we would always draw together for hours. My sister is also a creative, which is a testament to our dedication to creativity. It was really special to grow my imagination with someone like her.
