We had the good fortune of connecting with Victor H and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victor H, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have an IT background and I was tired of the 9 to 5 hustle. As a kid I was always interested in art and painting. I wanted to find a way to incorporate art into making money. Owning your own company and being self employed was always a dream of mine. It’s not always easy but it is definitely worth it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is very unique. Some call it street art or outsider art. I believe it is an extension of me and how I feel. My art can be dark and meaningful and yet childlike and whimsical. I think what sets me apart from other artists is my ability to reinvent myself. I don’t paint the same thing over and over. Most people have to look at my signature to know its mine because I paint in so any different styles. I am always so excited when I see the reaction on peoples faces when they first see one of my paintings. Their reaction, whether or not they like it, is priceless. My choice to paint was never easy. It has been a long 13 years of ups and downs. It is wonderful to finally be in a place where I am getting some recognition. I have never given up. When you are truly passionate about something, you must give it your all and never waiver. My brand is about having fun. My motto “Made For Dreamers” is my message to the world. Where would we be without dreams. Dreams are how we create, evolve, learn and grow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone came to L.A. to visit me for a week, the first thing I would do is take them to one of the many Mom and Pop Mexican restaurants the I am so passionate about. Not only is the food authentic and real but it supports small businesses. One of the first outings would be a trip to Disneyland. So much of my art is inspired by the childlike visions that I experienced as a child going to Disneyland. I would show them the real culture in Los Angles and not the fake Hollywood persona. I would bring them to an actual street dance battle. I am a former street dancer. Even though I don’t dance anymore it is always in my heart. I absolutely love Indian Casinos so we would have to make a stop at one of them. Probably Agua Caliente in Palm Springs. We would hit as many Galleries and art exhibits as possible. Supporting other artists is a passion of mine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are 3 people that supported and mentored me on this journey. The first is Margaret Rosato. She was one of the first people to see my art and recognize my ability. She got me exposure wherever she could and made sure that influential people saw me and my work. The second is Brad Lowman. He believed in me from day one and offered support in any way he could. The third is Wesley O’Neil. He has stood by me through all the ups and downs of this business and never let me give up.
