We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Martzloff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victoria, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I was incredibly shy as a kid, and my parents, hoping to help me break out of my shell, enrolled me in theater and ballet classes. At first, I was very hesitant, but I started enjoying it more and more as I kept going to classes. I later joined a local theater company, and that’s where I truly fell in love with acting and where I was able to gain a lot of confidence. There was something magical about being on stage, transforming into different characters, and connecting with an audience.

Throughout middle school and high school, my happiest moments were always when I was performing. That feeling made it clear to me that acting wasn’t just a hobby—it was something I wanted to pursue professionally. It’s the one thing that has always felt most exciting to me, and I can’t imagine what my life would be like without it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Acting, for me, is about truth—finding those raw, real moments that connect people and make them forget whatever else is going on in their lives for a little bit. What sets me apart is my focus on finding the joy in every character I play. I once had a theater teacher who would always tell us to “find our joy” when we were up on stage. It took me a long time to fully understand what she meant, but it’s all about the passion that you bring. The more passionate you are as a performer, the more the audience is drawn into watching you.

One of the things I’m most proud of is landing a recurring role in a major TV series, Dexter: Original Sin. It’s been such an incredible experience working on the show, but getting here took so many years of hard work and perseverance. Acting is a career filled with uncertainty, thousands of rejections, and many moments of doubt. I’ve learned that resilience is just as important as talent. Every ‘no’ along the way helped to prepare me for the opportunities that were meant for me.

For the past four years, I’ve attended the School of Dramatic Arts at the University of Southern California as a Theater major. Through USC, I was able to transition into acting for the camera and I’ve been very fortunate to learn from such incredible professors.

If there’s one thing I want people to take away from my story, it’s that success isn’t overnight. It’s built through persistence, self-belief, and a love for what you do. Whether it’s acting or any other passion, the key is to keep going—even when it’s hard. That’s what I plan to do, and I’m excited for what’s ahead!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d probably try to take them to a different part of LA each day. One day, we could explore Manhattan Beach and go to all the boutique shops. Another day, we could go to Santa Monica to rent bikes to ride along the beach then head to Jameson’s Pub that night. I also love going on hikes in LA. For a film I worked on, we did a hike at Cooper Canyon Falls. It was a long and difficult hike, but there’s a beautiful waterfall at the end, so it’s definitely worth going. I also love going to more relaxed places like Malibu and Catalina Island. Some of my favorite restaurants that I’d take them to are Perch, TAO, Catch LA, and Mar’Sel at Terranea. I’m not sure you could even fit all the best parts of LA into one week!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe so much of where I am today to my family, especially my parents. From the very beginning, they have been my biggest supporters—encouraging me, believing in me, and making sacrifices so I could chase my dreams. My mom had the idea to sign me up for theater classes when I was a kid, and my dad has always been there to remind me that hard work and perseverance pay off.

Acting is such an unpredictable career, and having a strong support system makes all the difference. Whether it was driving me to auditions, going to all my shows, or lifting me up when things didn’t go how I had hoped, my family has been my foundation through it all. I truly wouldn’t be here without their love, guidance, and unwavering belief in me.
