We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Thain Gioia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
That there is no perfect time. We started our journey to launch Perelel in January 2020. We never could have anticipated what was about to happen in the world and how crazy the next year was going to turn out to be. If we had known, we definitely would have paused, but not knowing and pushing through meant we had to follow through on what we started. We made it and ended up launching the brand on September 30, 2020. At the time, it definitely made so many things that much harder, but it also made some things easier – we were in a very digital world. It also made things easier for us as founders who had just had babies – we didn’t have to travel, get on the road, be in offices. It allowed us to do it all (somehow!). If we had waited or had the “perfect” time, we might not have had the same outcome to get to where we are today. I feel like this lesson resonates in all aspects of my life and learning that there just is no perfect time for anything. Even if you think it might be the perfect time, it may change and you have to more importantly figure out how to push forward, figure it out and keep going.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We started Perelel because of our own personal journeys and where we felt failed in the supplement category, but in launching and creating this brand, we’ve seen that there is so much more to that. This past year, we launched our #fundwomenshealth campaign pledging to commit $10m to help close the women’s health research gap. What was our personal experience was universal and in building Perelel, we’re now able to really implement change and support women. It has been incredible to see how many women we’ve been able to support in the last four years alone both through our products and through our donations, and how much more there is left to do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being an east coast transplant, I would always recommend starting the day with a run on the beach. Then hit up the Brentwood Country Mart for lunch from Barneys, a cookie from Farmshop and a little bit of shopping. Head to the Palisades Village for dinner and a martini at the Draycott and end the day with ice cream at McConnell’s (always the Sea Salt and Cream)!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Throughout all of this, my partner has been incredibly supportive and there is absolutely no way to launch a business and a family without that.
