We had the good fortune of connecting with Violent Vira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Violent, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think my work now is my life so I don’t really think much about balance these days. A break every once in a while is nice just to catch up on some rest and it’s also nice that my significant other produces a lot of my songs and plays in my band so we don’t really spend much time apart from each other. We both enjoy being busy in our mutual and shared careers when it comes to music. Work is life and life is work and just like that famous Marc Anthony quote: ‘If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I knew I wanted to be a singer from the age of 8 and the road to get to where I am today wasn’t easy. I wish I could say I had a lot of support and encouragement when it came to pursuing this career but truthfully I didn’t. I was often called a little delusional but I believe all great people are stubborn when it comes to their dreams. I came from a very religious household so when I listened to rock music for the first time it felt liberating, rebellious, fresh and exciting. I tried pursuing pop for 4 years but didn’t connect to it too much and after cutting some ties I decided to pursue the music my younger self wanted but never dreamed was possible till now. I’m beyond grateful that I get to inspire others now to break out of their shells the way my rock idols did for me back then.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There truthfully isn’t much to do in Dallas except eat so we would definitely go get some KBBQ and maybe some boba tea afterwards!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To the late Selena Quintanilla, thank you for being my first inspiration and introduction into music. My theatre teacher in high school thank you for making me fall in love with being a performer, and to all the producers and engineers I’ve worked with these past 2 years thank you for helping my visions come to life and creating immortal art with me.
