We had the good fortune of connecting with Vishvak Prakkruth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vishvak, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I honestly believe that risk-taking is an integral part of life. Growing up with undiagnosed ADHD, I found myself constantly seeking new challenges and opportunities, often acting on impulse. This aspect of my personality has profoundly influenced my approach to life and my career as a filmmaker.

I directed a play in high school with absolutely no experience, started a production company fresh out of college, and shot my first feature film in just 3 days. While highly risky, these were milestones that shaped my career as well as my personality.

Moving across multiple cities and countries in pursuit of my filmmaking dreams further underscored my willingness to embrace uncertainty. Whether it’s the thrill of venturing into the unknown or the desire to escape the mundane, taking risks has always been a driving force in my life.

As a filmmaker, it has allowed me to push the boundaries of storytelling, pursue creative opportunities, and ultimately carve out my own unique path in life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my journey as a child actor and then pursued music, theater, and photography. I studied journalism, learned to film and edit videos, and eventually ended up as a multi-disciplinary filmmaker. I feel that the skills and knowledge I have developed through these pursuits have shaped my unique approach to storytelling.

I’ve never boxed myself, and have had incredible opportunities to work as a cinematographer or editor on documentaries, commercials, music videos, and movies from all over the world. I’ve taught filmmaking to college students, and written and directed two independent films. I’ve built my whole career from doing what I love.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned in all this time is to never stop learning and trying new things. Sometimes I fail, other times I succeed, but it’s not about the result, it’s all about the creative process, and the lessons I learn each time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the beaches in LA, Venice to hang out with friends, Santa Monica for a nice meal or walk, Manhattan Beach, or Malibu to just lay down and forget life’s problems.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been fortunate to have encountered several people who have helped me along the way. While the list can go on for days, without the support of my family and friends, I would have never been able to follow my dreams. Without the philosophy of Daisaku Ikeda, I would have never found a purpose in my life. And without the unlimited optimism of my wife, I would have never pushed the boundaries time and again.
