We had the good fortune of connecting with Vizzi Pozzi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vizzi, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In my own life and career, embracing risks has been a crucial factor. It’s like navigating uncharted waters – uncomfortable at times, but it pushes me to view life and my career from different angles.
Failure is part of the journey, and I see it as a companion to achievements. By taking risks, you willingly step into uncomfortable situations, which forces you to reevaluate things and gain fresh perspectives. I firmly believe that without risks, there can be no real accomplishment. It’s through these challenges that we discover new facets of ourselves and unlock hidden potentials. So, I’m all for the idea that risk is not just a necessary point of growth but a catalyst for meaningful achievements.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I could go for ages anwsering this question ahahaha
“Nothing good comes easy”, as they say, and I underline that.
My work is deeply rooted in analogue photography, both 35mm and 120mm, as well as filmmaking, involving both digital and analogue mediums like Super 8. Analogue formats leave little room for error, but oddly enough, these errors often turn out surprisingly good. When I started photographing in analogue format, it was more of a fun pursuit, so errors were okay by me. With time, I began to see them as part of a vision, an asset. That’s when I started to minimize errors and develop a solid vision and a professional approach to photography. I overcame the challenges by acknowledging that failure is an integral part of success.
The most significant lesson I’ve learned along my journey is to stay true to yourself and your vision and trust your instincts. You might not see it immediately, but sooner or later, it will all come together. Working with multi-brand stores like Son of a Gun in Lisbon, N.10 in Saarbrucken, and Titolo in Zurich, and currently collaborating with brands like StreetX from Australia and Ementa SB from Portugal, has helped me understand that authenticity is key. My art is not just about capturing moments; it’s about telling stories that resonate universally, creating experiences that feel as human, imperfect, and wonderfully real as life itself.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hummm, LA is so diverse and multicultural; we could easily get lost around the City of Angels. But picture this: maybe we kick off the week in Venice, grabbing some killer pastries and coffee at Gjusta. Then, it’s a stroll down the Venice Boardwalk, maybe some tacos at Tacos Tu Madre. Chill by the Venice Canals, and dinner at The Tasting Kitchen.
Hike at Runyon Canyon? Brunch with a view at Perch in Downtown LA. From there, we could go to the Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre, to get it done with the touristy vibe.
Downtown LA is always on the agenda; we could do some artistry at The Broad and have a spicy lunch at Howlin’ Ray’s. The cherry on top of the cake is an NBA game at the Staples Center.
Some must-dos I would advise include a walk, maybe with brunch, around Silver Lake, catching the sunset at Griffith Observatory, and a drive with some food at Malibu Farm Pier Cafe with a view.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Life’s been a rollercoaster with its fair share of highs and lows, achievements, and setbacks. Amidst all of it, I want to give a special shoutout to those who turned their backs on me – the ones who only saw my failures and aimed for my disgrace. Surprisingly, without them, I might not have found the strength to move forward and prove to myself that I could achieve.
However, the standout figure deserving my recognition is undoubtedly my wife, India. She’s been my constant support, always believing in me, my vision, my judgment, and pushing me not only to be a good professional but a better man every day. She is my mainstone.
On the professional front, my shoutout goes to everyone who believed in my vision and gave me the opportunity to create a diverse portfolio. Their trust has been instrumental in my growth.
