Meet Wendy Ford | PR Agency Founder & Publicist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wendy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
If I am honest I wanted to start my own business to not have a boss haha! Also because I was feeling very uninspired in my first jobs and knew right away this was not for me. I always felt like so many details were missed or overlooked and everything could have been more efficient. I wanted to create a space & business where I could help other businesses and artists by getting them more exposure and growing their brand. It was something that made me excited and the client excited.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a founder of a PR agency and a Publicist at Wendy Ford PR and I am The Publicist. I am super proud of the exposure we have gotten clients in such outlets as Yahoo Entertainment, Drumhead, Authority Magazine, Bustle and more. Also helping them understand how to take PR in-house as well when our time has ended. What sets us apart is the relationships with journalists we have spent 15+ years cultivating as well as making sure our efforts make the biggest impact for our clients. A lot of PR agencies do “mass mailings” and it really ends up hurting the clients results, we work our butts off to make sure all outreaches are received and impactful. We don’t believe in “roping in” our clients to prolonged contracts and we truly want them to learn from our time and take those relationships with them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week I would be so excited to show her everything I could to make her want to stay longer hahah! I would definitely bring her up to Coastal San Pedro for hikes at White Point reserve and enjoy putting our feet in the sand. She would probably need a stop by In -N-out for a burger in fries but I would also want to take her to Nick’s in Seal Beach for their amazing Breakfast Burritos and of course Taco Surf in Long Beach for the most amazing Chili Rellenos. I think in California we are so lucky to have good weather 90% of the time, so anywhere with a gorgeous view, yummy food & a nice breeze is what I am all about!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would give a shout out to 4-hour work week by Timothy Ferris – the booked that smacked me in the face to getting serious about starting my own business. Thank you, Tim!
