We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Salazar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi WENDY, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One thing outsiders are probably not aware of is the level of technical skill, safety considerations, and legal knowledge involved in creating professional balloon decor.
It’s not just about inflating balloons and putting them together—there’s precise planning, knowledge of materials, and structural techniques to ensure installations are safe, and making sure the balloons are impactful, and long-lasting.
Also, understanding local regulations, like the “California Balloon Law” is essential. For example, the law requires metallic balloons to be properly weighted and includes rules to prevent power outages caused by loose balloons. Staying compliant not only is important for safety but also reflects professionalism and responsibility in our part. But event with the technicalities, I genuinely love what I do. There’s something magical about transforming spaces with balloons and knowing I’m helping create memories that people will cherish. It’s an art, a science, and a whole lot of fun—and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from other balloon artists, is that this business isn’t a hobby for me—it’s my passion, my responsibility, and my art form! As the founder and lead stylist of Stars Above Balloons Inc. I’ve taken my love for balloons to the next level by combining creativity with years of experience and a whole lot of professionalism.
I don’t just create a balloon arch; I craft experiences that leave people in awe. From understanding the science behind balloons (yes, it’s a thing!) to following California Balloon Law to keep events safe and responsible, I approach every project with care and expertise.
I’ve also worked hard to build connections, collaborate with amazing businesses, and stay ahead of the trends so I can deliver designs that are fresh, magical, and totally unforgettable. While hobbyists might be figuring things out, I’m out here making dreams float—literally! If you want something fun, bold, and flawlessly executed, I’m your go-to balloon stylist!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends or Balloon Colleagues visit from out of town, I love taking them to 71Above, one of the most breathtaking views when dining in Los Angeles. It’s high! Literally on the 71st floor of the US Bank Tower in downtown LA. The beautiful views of the city you can see skyline to the ocean and even the mountains on clear days.
It’s more of a modern and elegant restaurant, with floor-to-ceiling windows that let the stunning views be magical. The restaurant features American cuisine dish is delicious and they have Gluten Free options for Me!
I also love Strong Water in Anaheim—a hidden gem that has amazing food, creative cocktails, and is located in a cozy, tiki-inspired space, I love the experience. The decor feels like stepping into a vintage shipwreck-tropical hideaway, with nautical details, and an overall vibe that’s both relaxing and intriguing. Their menu has a mix of island-inspired dishes and modern flare, with flavors- bold and satisfying and their fresh seafood is delicious, every bite and cocktail feels like a mini-vacation.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am grateful to those who have supported me on this journey. My mother, who’s encouragement gave me the confidence to turn my passion for balloons into a thriving business. My husband and daughter continue to inspire me every day, motivating me to push boundaries and reach new heights with my balloons.
I also owe thanks to my dedicated past & present interns, whose dedication and hard work make it possible to help me bring large-scale events to life. To my clients, I am endlessly appreciative—for trusting me to transform their visions into magical designs, and that trust fuels my creativity. Finally, I am thankful to my Chambers of Commerce for fostering meaningful connections with businesses that share a love for the artistry and professionalism I bring to every event!
