Meet Wil J Jackson | Actor Producer and Retired Police Sergeant
We had the good fortune of connecting with Wil J Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wil J, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Such a great question. My simple answer is you never know. We guess, we hope, we wish and we pray for success or for a sign that it’s over. I for one feel i have never failed until i have quit trying.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a union actor and a producer. It’s a 180* degree turn from my Law Enforcement years. That good the police trai Ning has taught me patience. Im a hard worker. I dont need to be told to do something that will benefit me twice. Life isn’t meant to be or ever is totally easy. Some times I get depressed or sad because i didnt book something or something didn’t go my way but to me that’s life. I overcome challenges by taking them straight on. I take my medicine before desert. Im the type of person that want the bad news first and the good news last. I have learn so much about people and behavior through the years. I have learn how to let people show their true colors just by being patient. I am a gay, black, ex-cop that still has a positive outlook on life. This industry is not easy but is rewarding by allow me to touch people and making them feel. 
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man this question is hard. There so many wonderful places to eat and be. For food we will go to Avra, Mastro’s, BOA, Crustaceans, Santuari, anbd Larel Hardware. Places to visit would be LACMA, Academy Museum, Hiking, Beach, Huntington Botanical. And for sure the bars to people watch no drink.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For sure. It’s my Husband, Kenneth Kaplan. He is 100% behind me every step of the way. He has never told me no but he has explained why I shouldn’t. He is the strongest mani know.
