We had the good fortune of connecting with William Hill II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi William, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
In the industry, every self proclaimed will constantly search for validation. Validation is honestly a very, very way to put it. Creating an art and looking to sell it is all subjective, knowing what others will like, except is always the Chase. Being open to any craft and any genre is challenging because you don’t want to disrespect those who have done it at a high-level before. In my hip-hop or rap is something that I never want to disrespect. I take my very seriously and I take the way that I market it very serious as well. For me to feel validated for what I do doesn’t come from what the consumer tells me. I received my validation through the thoughts of my peers. I’ve created a very good understanding of honesty when it comes to my peers. I do not need to be friends with these peers, I don’t even need to be acquaintances. I just nearly need to validate who they are as an artist and that will tell me everything I need to know when it comes to them viewing or listening to my music. Those who have the same dedication will always tell you the truth about your destination. Jealousy and envy will always be a part of any industry, and that is something that you have to learn as a person to overlook and overcome. I just won my first award for a music accomplishment from my peers. That validates the fact that I keep doing what I’m doing

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am what it’s called a chopper rapper, Or double time rapper. What goes into this craft is being able to do 32 bars or more and a 16 bar space. What sets me apart from everyone else who does, this is my clarity. I put a lot of effort and time into what I do. Being able to recite different literal devices with Clarity at a high rate of speed is not easy, nor would I wanted to be. I practiced my breathing techniques, and I practice pronunciation of words. I try to make sure that I deliver the best quality performance that I can every time I record.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in Kansas City would have to be the Legends, I grew up in this area in a low income, housing apartment complex that many referred to as a project housing area. To see how far the area has come goes back to what I say about growth. Accepting something different and being able to embrace it and use it to help further you as a better person that I’ll always be on board for. So if you’re ever in the Kansas City area, please check out the legends, the home of sporting KC MLB soccer club, the Kansas City Monarch, minor-league baseball team, and the famous Kansas Speedway NASCAR racing track.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to everyone who is looking to grow into a better person. Over the years of being an artist, I’ve realized that growing is the only way that you’re going to stay relevant. I personally think my wife, I personally think my producer, and I personally think my children. These are all people that have helped me grow my sound and my connection points to my audience.
