Meet William Nunn | Voice Actor, Writer, and Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with William Nunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi William, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It made me happier and more fulfilled than anything else. I love storytelling and creating stories. Being a part of them as an actor is also very rewarding. It’s challenging. It involves a lot of hard work, and patience. And yet I find myself still wanting to do it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am also known as The Voice That Cooks. I love voice acting and also enjoy cooking from home. While I do feel like I bring a unique flavor to my creative endeavors, I picture what I would enjoy experiencing and listening to as far as audio content is concerned and try to make it happen. A good example would my Dhavid Miscavage: Audio Stage Play where I made an opening night play you could listen to about one of my Dungeons & Dragons characters going horribly wrong. A really fun idea that took 11 months to make between conception and release of the play. It’s the project I’m the most proud of that’s out right now. I’m working on something that I’m even more proud of now and can’t wait to share more in the future.
I also made a lot of friends in the voice acting community who wanted to work with me and vice versa. I think the many collaborations and podcast sessions and connections I’ve made have been what have really helped me move forward in my career. Empathy is very important. Patience is very important. You need to have both to last in a career like this. There will always be opportunities, but you also need to take care of yourself and be kind to yourself. It can be stressful to deal with opportunities not coming to you or you’re not booking auditions. But what I love about being a content creator is that I can create my own opportunities and let my friends and other amazing talents be a part of it. It’s really amazing and a great way to build friendships and experience.
I started out wanting to be a film director and making short films was a pain. I didn’t enjoy editing video and long hours outside wasn’t always pleasant for me. I did want to study acting so I could better understand how to direct, and sure enough, I found acting to be very fun. I worked in a call center for over a year and many coworkers and customers kept telling me I should be a voice actor. I’m glad I eventually listened.
I think what’d I’d like the world to know that I’m a huge Dune fan. Frank Herbert’s 6 books are absolutely phenomenal and continue to inspire me to this day. And I’ve seen Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part One over a dozen times. I love Star Wars and Star Trek, but Dune is my jam. My favorite meal I’ve ever made is Birria Tacos. It’s a long process but the end result is 1000% worth it. Even talking about this is making my mouthwater.
Like voice acting, cooking is an artistic endeavor. You’re creating something. You want to see the look on someone’s face after they take a bite. You want to ensure that what you made tastes good and looks good. And sometimes you want to try something new and it’ll blow your mind when you get it right. That was me the first time I made pizza.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If someone were to visit my hometown of Brownsville, TN, I’d take them to Kinfolk Foods. Fresh salads, amazing sandwiches, Sicilian pizzas, and yummy desserts. Best place to eat in town and the people that work there are awesome.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Melissa Medina is a friend who coached me and has since then rooted for me and my endeavors. Melissa is an incredibly gifted actor and singer, and has even made some content that I’ve enjoyed very much. We were in a workshop together and Melissa complimented my usage of “effort noises.” Noises you hear in fighting games. The lovely sounding classmate thought I sounded good?! I never forgot it.
