Meet Xzavier Beacham | The Captain and Your favorite Storyteller

We had the good fortune of connecting with Xzavier Beacham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Xzavier, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since I was young I loved telling stories. The first type of stories being the ones that kept me from getting in trouble (Lying to my parents to get away with stuff). Even then I knew how to set up a good beginning, middle and end.
It wasn’t until college that the theatre bug bite me and I began to traverse a career as a artist. Once I graduated college I continued to purse my craft choosing to go to Portland Actors Conservatory to continue my studies in the art and craft that is acting. In Portland OR where being black is under a large microscope and a place that loves art but doesn’t push or ignite to see itself grow. This beautiful yet, at time stagnant 2nd home of mine is where the beast was born. Choosing to take my southern approach and learn it all, I found my voice, and my confidence as an artist. I learn how to not just write and act but the importance of art and how we who choose to attack this form of expression have a duty to uphold. Now this is what I do full time while still holding down a full time job and the only person who can stop me… is me.
Its an exciting time right now. To be this clear on my voice and my art. I will be your favorite artist soon.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets you apart from others
I learned how to be honest from comedians. Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Dave Chapple, Bernie Mac, Eddie Griffin, Wanda Sykes. These giants shaped how I thought how to approach the world at large. No fear. No prisoners. No regrets. Not just living in your truth but allowing it to ooze from your pours.
This journey I chose to take began in college, and then advanced into theater school in Portland OR. It’s there that I found how I wanted to use my voice. The power that one can instill when they understand the depth of what a “voice” is.
Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
The road taken wasn’t impossible, it had its challenges like all journey do in life . I won’t harp on those, there are the stone we cross while on the way to finding our way to its a given that it was hard and to overcome., I choose to overcome. I didn’t choose to play the victim and allow circumstance to destroy me.
Hell, I make circumstance – Bruce Lee.
Lessons I have learned.
– Keep quiet until you are in stride of doing the thing you keep telling people about. Don’t pop your own bubble running your mouth about something you can’t show.
– All advice is worth hearing. If it applies use it, it it doesn’t lose the advice not the person.
– Your problems aren’t that special or that big. We all got them. Find your tribe or go within and figure it out. Your built for it.
The biggest lesson.. Go out and do it. Stop waiting. Go do it. That how you figure it out.
What am I the most excited about?
I am currently producing, writing, shooting, editing, filming, and doing voice over for my 2nd small series entitled “ForYourEyesOnly”. It’s a show about banned books and it releases Oct,5th (The 1st day of banned book week)
I have a project, and a feature film coming out with my ace and right hand man Mischa Webley ( Check out Hassan Hates Portland)
I’m writing Stand p Material. As someone who simply loves comedy I want to further my skills as a storyteller.
What sets me apart truthfully is I am not afraid of this work. I do not fear the sacrifice. I am free, and effecting culture with my art is my goal and mission.
Can’t wait for you all to see my become your favorite storyteller.. Just know I said it with you guys first.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I haven’t lived in LA too long, So all I know is inglewood but I have fallen in deep love with this city.
I would take them to the serving spoon for breakfast.
Then head over to the fish marker on Manchester to grab some fried catfish.
After that, we got to take us a nap cause all this food is going to make you tired.
After word, hit the planet fitness on crenshaw to work of the fish.
After a good shower and a brief nap, we could either head to the African American Museum to get our groove on if they have an event and if not a favorite spot of mine to go to in inglewood would the The Nile Bar and Grill.
Right now, that how I would take a friend out!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
**To my parents, family, and the many supporters who’ve stood by me:**
My name is Xzavier Beacham, and as I continue growing on this journey as an actor, I want to take a moment to recognize the people who helped make it possible. No artist stands alone — and I am deeply grateful for every push, prayer, and piece of guidance I’ve received along the way.
To my mom — thank you for always showing up. Whether it was making the trip just to see me for a weekend, or being in the audience at my productions, your presence has meant more than I can say. You’ve always brought joy into my world. Life doesn’t have the same kind of smile without you, and I carry the love you give with me into every role I play.
To my dad — your support has reached far beyond what many would even claim. You’ve backed me not just financially, but with advice rooted in faith and wisdom. You never told me exactly where to go — instead, you pointed a light toward the deeper perspective, where growth lives, even in the unknown. You love big, and you make sure I stay whole in this journey. I carry your strength with me in every step.
To my family in AGG, PDX, SC, ARK, and AL —
It’s too many of y’all to name, but you know who you are. Thank you for being here — for pushing me to be better, or holding me up when “better” felt too far and the moment felt like forever. Let this be the *first* of many articles you read with my name in it — and the first of many ways I’ll keep showing love to the places and people that shaped me. I love you. Let’s kill ’em.
**With love and gratitude,**
**Xzavier Beacham**
