We had the good fortune of connecting with Yağmur Soydemir and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yağmur, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
The soul needs nourishment from art. Music, painting, theatre, or sculpture, they all make life meaningful, deepen, and sometimes impart feelings and lessons that years of experience cannot. There are no limits to what we can think about and travel around when we are engaged in it. We can immortalize our feelings and beliefs through it, and it connects us to each other. My profession, music, is a strong branch of the art. It takes the mood and feelings of the person directly into account. Art disciplines require high creativity, observation skills and interpretation. This area is just for me. I feel like it’s my playground! Exploring and representing the composer’s imagination while performing, establishing my own empire while composing, discovering new visions, options and colors while arranging music. Art is all you need to change dimension, to see the life differently and to reach your own depths.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a classically-trained flutist who cannot fit into her performance! Several of my compositions are in the recording phase, and much more will follow very soon! My orchestral arrangements are performed live and I’m diving deep into classical music and jazz improvisation. I can’t stand still!

My Bachelor’s degree was in Classical Music • Flute Performance from Nice Conservatory, France. In those years, I was awarded three times in Solo and Chamber Music competitions in Europe and gave more than a dozen concerts. In 2020, I was accepted to Berklee College of Music in Boston with a full-tuition scholarship to pursue a Professional Diploma and I am currently double-majoring there on “Contemporary Writing and Production” and “Jazz Performance”. During the same year, I was named scholar of the year by the Turkish Jazz Association. Since then, I have given shows and concerts in Boston, collaborated with musicians, and composed music! Having started my musical path at the age of 11 with my flute, I am planning to continue my partnership for the rest of my life!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting Boston and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
