We had the good fortune of connecting with Yalan Wen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yalan, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Nature has always felt like a mysterious world that holds endless questions and answers for me.
This connection with nature is something I believe that many people have felt in their own way. That universal feeling is what drives me to create art that resonates with people on an emotional level. Through media art and painting, I hope to spark a sense of exploration and reflection on the world around us.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been exploring both media art and painting — they’re equally important to me. It’s exciting to have different tools at hand to experiment and find new ways to spark ideas.

When creating, I try to protect the core of instinct and mystery. I like to balance the rational, conceptual side of the work with the intuitive, sensory side. Usually, I start by observing my surroundings — the movement of light, the curve of an object, an organic shape, or the sound of a space.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d recommend a green spaces tour in Manhattan. You could start at the Elizabeth Street Garden, then head north to Washington Square Park or east to DUMBO, Brooklyn. There’s so much to see along the way.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m grateful to be part of the community that the Elizabeth Street Garden has fostered. It’s not just the green space itself, but also the poetry readings, movie screenings, and social events held there that have inspired me deeply. I’m also thankful for the artist fellows from the National Arts Club and my artist friends who have encouraged and motivated me along the way!
