Meet Yashin Phillips: Owner of Inchworm Entertainment

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yashin Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yashin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting Inchworm Entertainment was creating a business that allowed me to experience everything I am interested in with interviews and video production. I wanted to find a way to bring people together.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets me apart is my passion, my ability to effectively communicate with all kinds of people, and my work ethic. I’m currently really excited about Directing short films. During the quarantine period I was really depressed. I hated not being able to communicate with people in person. I was trying to figure out what was I really passionate about the most out of my business. I realized video production/directing was it. I started drawing a bunch of storie boards that I’ve always wanted to shoot. I told myself I will always dedicate my time behind the camera telling stories about black girls and women. The biggest challenges I’ve faced are getting out of my own head creatively when it comes to projects. I’ve also faced challenges with people who feel like I should I only stay in one lane. For example I interview political figures from time to time on my platform. The next day I might post a YouTube video of me giving a review about a vibrator I purchased or post a sexy picture. Some roper don’t like it. I never gave a damn. That’s the beauty and uniqueness of who I am. I “wiggle” in whatever lane I want too. I want people to know I have several talents and interests. I am director, host, journalist, videographer, and photographer. I will always do what I want creatively behind or in front of the camera. Black girl magic is real.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is such a fun question. Lol I would definitely take them around to see my family first because I’m a family woman. Then after that we would definitely go to Evanston (my hometown) to eat walk around and go to to the beach! I absolutely love Evanston. Then we would either drive or take the train “L” Downtown Chicago and just sight see. I love the Museum of Science and Industry and The Field museum. Then we would definitely have to go get pizza! Lol I would would go to a couple of Lounges later to party. Oh and if you’re my friend then you need to rollerblade. We gotta rollerblade along the lake.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out is dedicated to all the black girls and women who don’t know or fully understand their worth or power. Black girls and women you are beautiful, you are powerful, you are loved, and valued. My shout out will always and forever be with you.
