We had the good fortune of connecting with Yasmine Diba and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yasmine, how do you think about risk?
One of the bigger “risks” I haven taken in my life was quitting a job where I was on salary and moving to New York with no job, apartment, or really idea what I was going to do. But I believe that “risk” ended up being one of the major reasons I get to work for myself now. Who’s to say it wouldn’t of worked out like this some other way, but I would say when it comes to risk taking with careers it never hurts to just try. If things don’t work out you just change them. Doesn’t mean it will be easy, but nothing has to be permanent. It’s your life so you are allowed to have a plot twist whenever you please. New beginnings are exciting.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a director. What that means varies – it’s on a case by case basis. I would say I got to where I am today by saying yes to almost everything – paid or not. In a perfect world people wouldn’t have to do this but I wouldn’t change one job I’ve taken because I’ve learned from each one.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Truly depends on the friend and what I think they’d enjoy! On principal would probably – go to the beach, the movies, bookstores, get lots of coffee, some nice dinners, and walk around. When friends visit sometimes you get to do things in your own city you wouldn’t normally – so would probably frequent a couple new places I haven’t been to myself.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, family, and friends. My teachers. Most of the people I’ve worked with. There are to many books, movies, authors, directors and places to name. But to thank a few – Too Much and Not in the Mood by Durga Chew-Bose, Chunking Express, Rumi, pretty much any Audrey Hepburn film, Silver Linings Playbook, David Lynch, Devotion by Patti Smith, California, Switzerland, France, Iran.
