Meet Yasmine Tanres | TV Host, Producer & Multimedia Journalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yasmine Tanres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yasmine, what do you attribute your success to?
First of all know what you define as success, because for each person this differs and sets an individual standard that results in greater ease and true success in life. On a practical level, for me success is defined as being healthy, living in harmless conditions, surrounded by love from family and chosen family, my friends, and the bonus is to make a living by doing what I love, all the while being of service to others. What lies beneath my definition of success is being incredibly intentional, in alignment with my core values, to be unafraid of taking risks, and to stay committed to myself. Moments of self-reflection, observing sources of inspiration and ultimately trusting my intuition is key to figuring out the next best steps within any given situation that for me personally result in success.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
As soon as I knew I wanted to get into TV hosting, it was never about me. In fact, I was the shiest and quietest girl in class! It took someone else in the industry to see me to realize my potential. This led to my great effort in practicing public speaking skills until I became confident enough to report in front of the camera. This moment was pivotal in my life, as it laid the foundation to me learning how to conquer my fears, and provided me with the tools to spotlight communities that I felt deserved greater representation in media.
I took this mission on and started my training as a multimedia journalist in London. As part of the first ever youth news-style magazine show, London 360 I researched, produced, interviewed and edited multiple news features that were broadcast nationally on television in the UK. Then I took my experiences over to Los Angeles. This was one of the greatest and toughest decisions I made, leaving all my friends and family behind, beside having to obtain a working visa was a whole other mission. Long story short with the support of my agency and industry professionals, I was able to obtain a working visa in the US and continue on my path to reporting. I would say that this is one thing that sets me apart as there are only very few British hosts, let alone of Spanish and Asian descent who speak German and Spanish fluently based in Los Angeles. Through industry referrals and my own network I have been able to work in local news, at red carpet premiers, celebrity press junkets and cover historical events.
Five years later and I have been provided with the fortunate opportunity of co-producing and hosting my own show called ‘A look into our America’ broadcast on Chime TV – the first and only English speaking network airing AANHPI content. As a result of continuously remaining active in my field by covering celebrities, entrepreneurs, politicians, activists and events such as the first ever Asian Fashion Week show in Los Angeles, I have been recognized by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce with a ‘Top Faces of Hollywood’ award while emceeing the Style LA Magazine Supermodel Search of 2023 in support of She is Hope LA, a non-profit for single mothers. This was certainly one of my proudest and unexpected professional accomplishments, proving that you never know who’s watching, but efforts to go beyond yourself are seen and noticed.
Since growing into the TV industry and being placed in a variety of opportunities my core mission has always been to provide a voice and bring people’s messages and stories to life. It’s a great privilege to be of service in this way and it is my purpose to continue on the path to bring forth greater awareness. The award was also a beautiful reminder of how passion can lead to success, and to never stop creating your dreams!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say check out all areas of LA starting from east to west: In Downtown LA the Grand Central Market and Bestia restaurants are a must! In Hollywood watch a performance at the Hollywood Bowl – it doesn’t matter if you’re a fan or not of the act of the night, the setting and acoustic is one of a kind! Get a good laugh at a comedy show after eating juicy tacos at Teddy’s Red Tacos. Check out K-town, Little Tokyo and Thai Town for more food! Grab a fancy cocktail or dine at more upscale restaurants like Chateau Marmont, the Sunset Towers and Craigs. Sign up to a yoga, pilates or any fitness class really, as the wellness scene here is world-class! Take a sunset bike ride from Santa Monica to Venice and check out the scene there, it’s fun and quirky! End on the West coast by going on a wine safari in Malibu and chilling at the beach! This may not all be possible within a week and there’s so much more, I would just love for them to experience the variety that LA has to offer!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I love this question, because truly no one is ever successful on their own! I would not be here today if it weren’t for the great love and encouragement from my mother, godfather, partner and friends. They believe in me and support me all the way! My mother especially has taught me how to be resilient in the face of adversity, love fiercely and to go for whatever I want in life with the notion of “if you don’t ask, you don’t get”. I also deeply appreciate my professional peers, industry creatives and those who see me from afar providing me with great opportunities and stimulating new insights in life.
