Meet Yatzil Elizalde

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yatzil Elizalde and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yatzil, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my work and career to inspire others, igniting the courage to chase their dreams and pursue their artistic goals. I hope to be remembered for creating authentic pieces that resonate deeply, expressing emotions and ideas far beyond the reach of words.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m incredibly proud to say that I’m a pioneer of the style that defines me, which I’ve named the blurry style. This approach has undoubtedly revolutionized tattooing, carving out its own space in the art form as a completely new style.
What sets this style apart is its uniqueness, often described as double or triple-layered “3D” work. It has taken my pieces around the world, leaving people intrigued and even conflicted as they try to focus on the image or design.
I take pride in the signature mark this style leaves on everything I create. It ensures that my work is not only a great tattoo but also an unmistakable, recognizable piece of art wherever it’s seen.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in LA involve art, food, and nightlife.
Art: The Getty (#1), the Broad, LACMA.
Food: Downtown Central Market (Mexican food and tacos are great), Sonora Town (because it’s the taste that reminds me of my homeland), Yamashiro.
Los Angeles hikes: the Griffith, Malibu, Santa Monica Pier.
Some main streets like Rodeo Drive.
Nightlife: I would give you a tour of some of my favorite bars like SoHo House Downtown and my favorite Barney’s Beanery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shoutout to all the artists who have supported my work, honored my art by wearing it on their skin, and believed in my vision. A special thanks to the people I admire who have invited me to collaborate with them, like Kat Von D and Ganga, who inspired me when I first moved to LA and trusted in my talent. I’m also incredibly grateful to other amazing artists I deeply respect, who now proudly wear my creations, including Lil Uzi Vert, Anthony Davis, Tyga, Jake Paul, and more.
