We had the good fortune of connecting with Yi Fu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yi, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I find happiness in the simple and beautiful things in life. I have a deep appreciation for all things cute and the art of handmade creations. There’s something inherently joyous about crafting something with your own hands and bringing your imagination to life.

One of my greatest sources of happiness comes from drawing based on life, whether it’s inspired by the natural world or the people around me. When I take a moment to observe the beauty in nature, from the vibrant colors of a blooming flower to the serene tranquility of a babbling brook, it fills me with an overwhelming sense of joy. There’s a certain magic in being able to capture the essence of these moments through art.

Likewise, people are a constant source of inspiration for me. Each person has their own unique story, expressions, and emotions. When I observe them, it’s as if a world of creativity and imagination opens up to me. I can convey these stories, emotions, and ideas through my illustrations and handmade creations. The ability to translate the world around me into tangible forms of expression is a profound source of happiness.

In essence, what makes me happy is the ability to turn my love for all things cute, my observations of nature, and the wonderful diversity of people into art. The process of creation, the satisfaction of completing a piece, and the possibility of connecting with others through my artwork all bring a deep sense of contentment and happiness to my life. It’s a way for me to share the beauty and joy I see in the world with others, and that, in itself, is one of the most fulfilling experiences I can think of.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I’m most proud of and excited about in my life is my unwavering commitment to the creative path. From the moment I first discovered the world of art, I fell in love with drawing, and that love has only grown stronger over the years. My journey as an artist has been a testament to my determination and passion for self-expression.

I take great pride in the fact that I’ve never given up on my creative endeavors. Art has been my constant companion, a means of expressing my thoughts, emotions, and perspectives. It has been a source of joy, solace, and fulfillment throughout my life. I’ve dedicated myself to honing my skills and exploring various artistic media to better convey my feelings and ideas. This journey has been marked by dedication, learning, and continuous growth.

While it hasn’t always been easy to pursue a creative path, my love for art has been a driving force that kept me going. Like any artistic journey, there have been challenges, self-doubt, and moments of frustration, but the desire to create has always propelled me forward. I’ve embraced the ups and downs, the triumphs and failures, as essential elements of my artistic growth.

Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m excited about the future and the endless possibilities for self-expression through art. My passion for creation has been my guiding light, and I’m proud of the artistic journey that has brought me to where I am today. The road may not have been easy, but it has been immensely rewarding, and I look forward to a lifetime filled with creativity and artistic exploration.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
if I were to give a shoutout and credit to someone, it would undoubtedly go to the most wonderful and intriguing group I’ve had the privilege of interacting with – children. They have an incredible way of bringing joy, creativity, and spontaneity into our lives.

My experience teaching children at a summer camp left a lasting impression on me. It was truly eye-opening to witness their uninhibited approach to art and creativity. While I might often overthink my drawings, contemplating every detail and seeking perfection, the kids drew with unbridled enthusiasm. They didn’t worry about following conventional rules or striving for perfection; they simply expressed themselves freely and created whatever they felt like in the moment.

This carefree, unfiltered creativity was not only refreshing but also incredibly fun to witness. It reminded me of the pure joy of creating for the sake of creating, without the weight of expectations. The children’s artwork exuded a sense of authenticity and a direct connection to their emotions, which was both inspiring and heartwarming.

So, if there’s anyone I’d like to dedicate a shoutout to, it would be the children I had the pleasure of teaching. Their ability to find joy and fulfillment in the act of creation itself, without being burdened by self-doubt or judgment, is a lesson I carry with me and a constant source of inspiration. They deserve recognition for reminding me of the pure and unadulterated essence of art and the simple happiness it can bring.
