Meet Yin Fu | Visualization Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yin Fu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yin, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I am a person who can easily find happiness in life, any little detail can make me happy. It can be a good day’s work, it can be the care of a family member, it can be the good weather and the roadside encounter of a close feral cat. I developed this ability to find happiness after going through some difficult times in my life because they made me feel positive.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I work in the entertainment industry, specifically providing visual services for television and movies. Our job was to animate the script to provide a reference for the actual shooting and to do the initial post effects compositing for the footage. It’s a job that requires a lot of creative and visual talent, and what I’m most proud of and excited about is seeing my ideas and designs presented and loved by the audience. It’s definitely not easy to do, and I continue to learn and become more professional. The biggest way for me to overcome these difficulties is to study because this job not only requires me to be good at a lot of professional skills but also has high requirements on the personal artistic accomplishment of artists. I have a relatively clear understanding of myself, knowing what I am good at and what I am not good at. Therefore, whenever I encounter difficulties, I will try all ways to improve myself. This is also a very important course I have learned. If you want to continuously strive for upward development in your career, you must constantly strive to improve yourself. This industry is full of people with strong talent and abilities. By constantly improving yourself and growing down, you can have a solid foundation and break out of the ground.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Porto’s Bakery and Cafe has always been one of the places that I make sure to take every friend to LA and they love it, no exceptions. After working here for many years, I first learned about this shop from my graduate professor, who moved away. However, he visited this shop every time he had the chance to come back to LA. And I have to say this is still my favorite and best value bakery after traveling a lot.
Dune in Glendale is another spot that impressed me, a Mediterranean restaurant that is also very good value for money, with plenty of flavors and portion sizes.
In addition, I would also recommend some flea markets, which I think are good places to learn about the local culture in LA. You can know the local people’s clothing style and home decoration style through the items they sell.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I did receive a lot of help from others when I was growing up, but it was an animated film, Pixar’s Monsters University, that greatly changed my life. This is not Pixar’s most famous and successful film, but I happened to experience the same dilemma as the main character Mike Wazowski when I saw it for the first time: how to choose when one’s talent does not match the ideal one pursues. At the beginning of the film, Mike tried very hard to become a scarer, but after a long time of effort, he found that he did not have the necessary nature talent to become a scarer. However, after a series of adventures, he finally found that he had the talent to be an instructor, and finally realized his dream in another way. I was also striving to pursue my dream of painting since childhood, but found that my talent was not enough to support my dream, and I was very desperate for my future. But the movie and Mike’s experience woke me up and made me realize that everyone has their own talents, that there are thousands of ways to live in this world, and that the way you feel most comfortable is the way that works best for you. After watching this movie, I began to open my vision, learn about various potential career development paths, and find the direction I like and fit more.
