We had the good fortune of connecting with Yo Blake and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yo, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
One habit I value is protecting my creative energy. I’ve learned to say no to things that drain me and yes to what fuels my passion. That means creating boundaries, making time to rest, and surrounding myself with people who inspire me. When you prioritize your creativity, you create better work and that’s where real growth happens.

I also know there are days when you don’t feel inspired or creative, but having the habit of showing up and doing the work anyway has made a big difference. I’ve learned to treat my music like a job, something that deserves my time and energy every day. That mindset has helped me stay consistent and keep moving forward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Was it easy?
I believe that one of the biggest challenges for me was figuring out who Yo-Blake really was compared to Jorge Millanes. When I first started making music, I didn’t fully know what I was doing, I just knew I had something to say and a strong desire to express it. But once I understood what Yo-Blake represented, everything started to make more sense. It gave me a clear direction and purpose. Yo-Blake became the voice for things I couldn’t always express as Jorge.

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to just keep moving. There are moments when we feel stuck or uninspired, or we spend so much time trying to make something perfect that we lose momentum. I had to accept that things don’t need to be perfect, they just need to be finished. Every project teaches you something new, and that growth is what matters most. Your latest work will always be better than your first, not because it’s perfect, but because you’ve learned along the way.

There will always be moments in life, whether it’s a tough situation, outside noise, or personal doubt, that can make you feel distracted or disconnected from your goals. I’ve definitely had those days. But I’ve learned that even when the motivation isn’t there, progress comes from putting in the work, even on the days you don’t feel like it. You have to keep showing up for yourself and your vision, even when it’s hard. That mindset is what keeps me focused and allows me to keep creating, even when things get tough.

What do you want the world to know about your brand and story?
I want people to know that being different is powerful. And that it’s actually your superpower. I’ve always been told that my music has a unique tone, but I’m comfortable being different and standing out rather than blending in. Being different can sometimes feel like people don’t notice or understand you, but often it’s just fear of the unknown.

My music is about self-discovery and expressing raw emotions, things I might not always say out loud as Jorge. Through my songs, I’m able to share those real moments. Like my song, “Mentiras” is about reaching a point where you’re done with excuses and choosing to let go of what no longer serves you. That honest expression is what I want my brand and story to be about, being authentic, vulnerable, and true to myself, no matter what.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d make sure they got a little bit of everything. Active fun, good vibes, and great music. We’d start our days with some workouts because I love staying active. Tennis or hitting the gym would be perfect for getting the energy flowing, but my absolute favorite is rock climbing, there’s something about the challenge and focus that I love, and it’s always a blast to share that with friends.

In the evenings, I’d take them to concerts or live music shows, especially places where local artists or friends are performing. Music is a big part of my life, so catching a show or even jamming with my music friends if the moment’s right is always a highlight. Of course, we’d also check out some cool bars and chill spots where we can relax, have great drinks, and just enjoy the vibe.

On top of all that, I’d squeeze in some movies or other laid-back hangouts, and definitely plan a day out at the lake to unwind, soak up nature, and just enjoy some calm time away from the city. For me, the best trips mix fun, creativity, and connection, and that’s exactly what I’d want to share.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give some credit to the people who’ve been supporting my music from the beginning. From sharing my songs to showing love online or just checking in, those little things have really helped keep me going. I also have to thank my family and friends. They’ve believed in me since day one and have always had my back. Their support has meant a lot and has played a big part in helping me stay focused on my goals. I’m really grateful for everyone who’s been part of this journey with me.
