Meet Yolanda Gonzalez | Chicana multidisciplinary Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yolanda Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yolanda, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’m a multidisciplinary artist.
My pursuit as an Artist was influenced by My family lineage of Artists dating back to 1877. My grandmother sat me down to paint when I was eight years old. My passion looking forward was to create Art.. I have been creating art for the past 40 years.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a multidisciplinary expressionist artist known for my vibrant and emotive works that traverse various mediums, including painting, sculpture, ceramics and installation. Born and raised in Los Angeles, I draw from my rich Chicana heritage and personal experiences to create art that resonates with themes of unconventional beauty, identity and culture.
In the span of 40 years as a professional artist I have developed a unique style which combines bold colors, abstract forms, portraits and powerful narratives. Gaining significant recognition for my ability to evoke deep emotional responses through my work, blending traditional and modern techniques to explore the complexities of the human condition. I believe, “Art is a way to connect people together through emotion and dialogue.”
My one woman exhibition Metamorphosis: The Evolution of Visions and Dreams prominently showcased at the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) captivated audiences with its profound expression and innovative approach.
Beyond my local impact, I have also participated in international residencies, including programs in Scotland, Russia, Japan, Spain, and France. These residencies have broadened my artistic perspective and infused my work with diverse cultural influences..

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My grandmother Margarita Lopez Ibarra was my mentor. She opened my eyes to a whole new world that I didn’t quite understand at the age 8, Yet it was a world that would later bring me lots of travel, joy, and love.
My interaction and relationship with the creative process from then on was deep and ever imbedded in my soul. She was a wonderful woman who created paintings and was a master pianist.
Special Thanks to My Family, Friends & patrons of Art who have been by my side throughout this wonderful experience.
Thank You to San Gabriel Mission High School & Ms. Dixie Coutant My high School teacher who took an interest in my advancement as an Artist.
