We had the good fortune of connecting with Yoon su Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yoon su, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
From my short life experience, I have learned that risk or crisis in our life is not always negative. Whether you overcome or not, you get at least one life lesson from that. I admit that myself as the one of the person who is really obsessed with stick to my plan, however when I look back my career, the plan I set up initially never came true in the moment I thought. In fact, the results of taking the risk made my network more stronger, re built self esteem and allowed me to be more flexible in my overall life. In my case, the point when deciding to move in LA about 4 years ago, that could be said a huge risk taking experience. Not just I had to leave all my family and friends in Korea, I had to start all over from the scratch as an animator. Even though studying and working in LA was one of my big dream, at that moment I had suffered from mental disease that came from living so competitively in work place and struggle with family trauma. So it was my dream that I used to think it would never happen and I couldn’t dare to take such an opportunity. But here I’m in LA, surrounded by wonderful people I met in school and couple of work place, who always inspires me and teach me how to live my own life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The film I should probably had to finish in this moment will be the most proud one but still I working on that so I will talk about the second proud one in my works. Last year fall, I was in charge of making animated music video for my dearest friend, Rang and for her band name Ashmute, who are actively making music in Korea. The album named, ” I see” was very mystic, emotional song that sings about how life could be so much cruel to us, eager to give up ours but the best revenge to those dreadful fate might be stood up for your life and face up your destiny. Thanks to Rang, she trusted me 100 percent and let me experience with the visuals. I tried to work on new visual style mixing painting textures in 3D objects and compose it to the dreamy look scenes. After that Music video, I often get some request looking out for that certain visual styles form my clients. Certainly it was the most important collaboration experience that continued my work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is not so much place I know but I would definitely introduce the milky way restaurant in LA. I had very good memories at there last year Christmas. Food was so amazing and I loved the cozy vibes in there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ray chang He is one of the genius I known for 4 years. What he does in his artwork and automata machines are just magic for me. Due to COVID-19 he didn’t had a chance to show his work properly, and I still think he should get more attention from the public.
