We had the good fortune of connecting with Yosepha Greenfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yosepha, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
There are a lot of misconceptions about the college admissions industry. Every day, we talk to dozens of parents of college applicants — much of those conversations are spent demystifying the college admissions process and clearing up myths in the industry. No, colleges actually don’t want well rounded students; they want lop-sided or angular students that show great depth in a particular area of interest. No, legacy does not mean you have a much better chance of getting in, especially these days! No, being a 4.0 student body president does not make you more likely to get into Harvard. No, getting a letter of recommendation from someone important does not help your chances. We hear it all!

Our team of 150+ Former Admissions Officers has been on the other side of the table. They know what competitive colleges are looking for, and equally as important, what they are not looking for. Now, they work directly with our students to achieve success in the college admissions process (and with our parents too!).

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
InGenius Prep is a college admissions consulting company that helps students outperform the odds and get into their reach colleges. I believe it is our team, more than anything, that sets us apart — and it is our team, first and foremost, that gets me excited to show up for work every day. Over the past 10 years, we’ve worked incredibly hard to build a roster of hard-working, talented, ambitious, and driven team members. As a graduate of Yale and former D1 athlete, I have been around a lot of talented and hard-working individuals. But honestly, the people we have hired at InGenius are some of the hardest working and inspiring people I’ve ever been around. Together, we all come up with new ideas on a daily basis. We are willing to try anything and learn from our experiences. We set ambitious goals and work together to reach those goals. We are competitive, but not with each other. We want to provide the best possible service in this industry and will do everything possible to help our students reach their goals.

This mindset and this approach extends to the team of college admissions consultants we have built. We have over 150 Former Admissions Officers from every single top school in the US, the largest team in the world. When working with us, students have access to our collective knowledge base, built from the insights of 150+ Former Admissions Officers, all of whom are intimately familiar with the admissions processes at and preferences of their respective schools. They have read thousands of applications and decided whether students got accepted or rejected at those schools. Our students get direct access to this school-specific information. Every school is different. By having a team of over 150 Former Admissions Officers from every top 20 school, we understand all of these differences and have incorporated them into our curriculum and counseling process.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think I have to give this one to my dad! When I think about the success I have been fortunate enough to have so far, a lot of it comes from my work ethic, intensity, and competitiveness — all qualities I share with my dad. He put me into a Tae Kwon Do class when I was 2 years old (he had to get them to bend the rules to let me in this young!). I was a black belt by age 8 and a 6 time National Champion. It was in Tae Kwon Do that I learned discipline, focus, and to win on a daily basis, all habits and skills that I bring to my job at InGenius Prep every single day. Throughout my upbringing, my dad encouraged my competitiveness (I think we literally raced to the car from practice at every single opportunity) and opened doors for me to relentlessly pursue my passions (Tae Kwon Do, basketball, later InGenius Prep). Thank you Dad!! Major shout out to you!!
