We had the good fortune of connecting with Yubo Dong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yubo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The whole process is rather serendipitous. My partner Zihui Song and I have been working as freelancers for a while, and pandemic kickstarted the demand for more remote contents. As more photo/video works comes to our way naturally, we decide to run as a team offering photographic services, as well as offering studio rental for other production teams.

What should our readers know about your business?
ofstudio photography starts right before the pandemic hits the world. My partner and I really screwed ourselves as we learned that “ofstudio” is such a generic phrase for search engine optimization and get people to find us 🙁 What we are proud of is that within 2 years we are growing rapidly and have been continuing attract clientele from many industries. Apart from my color-critical, reproduction level art digitization, my partner also attracts projects ranging from fashion, electronics, jewelry, editorial, and many more. The most challenging part for us is to tell people what we do. We are social media illiterates and all new clients has been through word of mouth. If you are a potential client that is reading this – talk to us and let us show you how much we care and how great we can deliver 🙂

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ok we are probably going to APOTHEKE LOS ANGELES for a drink or two, after getting food at MAJORDŌMO in the same lot. The next day – Brunch at Met Her at a Bar, chicken waffle, then head over to LACMA, probably getting coffee at Go Get em Tiger near Larchmont.
As coffee zealot we’d hit Goodboybob on another day in the west side, and then visit Hammer Museum and Bergamot Station ARTS CENTER, Getty Center is pretty close by and we may visit their research institute too. Getting food at Tsujita in Sawtelle would be nice.
Then near Chinatown downtown we can eat at Howlin Rays and Pho 87, getting coffee at endorffeine or Maru coffee. Visit a few galleries like Charlie James Gallery, Nicodim Gallery, vielmetter los angeles, and might get some Mexican food afterward. I think King taco is the best budget food and my hispanic friends tolerate that opinion 🙂
Downtown area – maybe Tuesday evening concert at the Coburn School? LA Phil at Disney Concert Hall? seeing the Broad Museum or MOCA Grand ave and Geffen?
This list is getting too long and a bit ramble-y

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out to Charlie James Gallery and Orange County Museum of Art. Both organizations put trust in me early in my career and allow me to make mistakes and grow from it. OCMA also gave me the opportunity to photograph my first museum assignment. And Charlie’s attention to detail and active feedbacks always keep me improving (and on my toes).
