We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuki Tsugawa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yuki, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I used to paint things for fun, so I just painted whatever I like, and didn’t care about the quality. But occasionally some people gave me money when I painted for them. Then I felt like I should improve my skills to deserve the payment. Since then, I have been studying anatomy, lighting, colors and composition. And also, I have been painting on a regular basis. After a while, I got confident in myself, then I started my own business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Because there are not many commissions I work on, I’ve been spending much time on developing my art skills. For example, joining art challenges on Instagram on a regular basis, checking time lapse videos of my favorite artists or etc. In my opinion, professional artists are supposed to keep learning something new and improving their own skills. So that’s what makes me busy these days.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m in Osaka, where you can do anything for fun. Each area has unique atmosphere and feature. So, it’d be super busy to see all of them. I’d avoid the most popular sightseeing areas because I’d like them to experience what normal tourists wouldn’t try. So I’m thinking of Minoh, where you can enjoy hiking, a beautiful waterfall and craft beer. If you are lucky, you can see a wild monkey there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m sure I couldn’t have reached here without the support of my great friends and followers. So, I really appreciate all of them. So, it’s really hard to choose one person or one thing. But I can say there’s one thing that has influenced me, which is Japanese Anime culture. There are many awesome Anime, like One Piece, NARUTO, or BLEACH. They’ve always made me excited.
