We had the good fortune of connecting with Yung Khoo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yung, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I believe the most impactful thing I’ve done as a parent is teaching my children the importance of self-awareness. Self-awareness is the foundation of healing and growth. By encouraging them to question their behaviors and understand the reasons behind their actions, it’s helping them get to know their true selves. Many people go through life unconsciously, which can lead to negative feelings and actions that harm themselves and others. For instance, someone who habitually speaks poorly about others may lack self-awareness, unable to see how their words are a projection of their insecurities and unhappiness. Similarly, a person who constantly seeks external validation might not realize they’re compensating for a lack of self-acceptance. By fostering self-awareness, I hope to contribute to raising kinder, more considerate individuals who are in tune with their inner selves.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in sound and energy therapy using my intuition and tuning forks to work within an individual’s energy field, addressing misaligned frequencies caused by factors such as surgery, accidents, or emotional distress. The tuning forks can identify and correct the misaligned frequencies to vibrate back to its natural vibration patterns. This process operates at a cellular level and can lead to improved physical health, emotional stability, and mental clarity. Although many sound healers use tuning forks, my method is uniquely my own because I tap into my intuition. Rather than following established methods, I chose to trust my intuition and create something authentically mine.

I was an elementary school teacher for nearly 24 years for the Los Angeles Unified School District. I had planned to retire with a stable pension and health benefits. I bought into that dream of retirement. However, my journey took an unexpected turn when I developed chronic pain, which led me to early retirement and to explore sound healing. This exploration revealed the power of my intuition and sound. I knew my approach was different from anything I had seen before.

The decision to trust my intuition forced me to confront a host of insecurities and misguided self-perceptions, including fears of failure and concerns about potential judgements toward myself and my family. However, through the healing powers of meditation, I recognized that the only way to truly create something new was to take the leap. Introducing this particular method to the world has been challenging, yet incredibly rewarding. Taking that risk allowed me to offer a unique approach to healing, one that has not only set me apart but has also provided significant benefits to those I work with. In the end, embracing risk has enabled me to create something truly transformative and impactful.

I believe the most important factor in my success has been learning to surrender. Early on, I was conditioned to believe that success required meticulous planning and constant effort. I relied heavily on my mind and plans, often trying to think my way through life rather than trusting my intuition. If things didn’t go according to plan, I would view them as failures. But, I found that some of my most significant breakthroughs happened when I allowed myself to trust the process and let go of rigid expectations. Surrendering to the flow of life has taught me that what may seem like a setback is often an opportunity in disguise. Surrendering isn’t easy, it takes continuous practice and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. I’m still learning, but I’ve come to realize that when I let go and trust the process, life unfolds in a beautifully unexpected way. This shift in perspective has not only brought me greater success as a healer, but also a deeper sense of peace and satisfaction in my life.

My goal is to spread awareness about the effectiveness of sound and energy healing and their ability to bring about significant, positive changes in people’s lives. This method can not only alleviate physical and emotional pain, but also to enhance overall life quality. Healing is often a domino effect. For instance, when a mother experiences healing, it positively impacts her children, who may then carry that positivity into their interactions at school, potentially reducing instances of bullying. Similarly, her healing can influence her spouse, who might extend that positive change to their colleagues or others they encounter. This ripple effect has the potential to foster greater peace and well-being throughout our communities and beyond.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Southern California offers an incredible array of activities, and I’d love to share some of my favorite spots with a visiting friend. We’d start our day at Coffee and Plants in Studio City, a charming café with a beautiful aesthetic and some of the best matcha you can find. Next, we’d visit Align Your Vibes, just down the street, to take a health and wellness class. It’s a perfect way to ground and center us for the day ahead. All the practitioners I work with are gifted and authentic. After recharging, we’d make our way to Downtown Los Angeles for a delicious sushi lunch at KazuNori, a handroll bar. Post-lunch, we’d explore the Fashion District, where there are always exciting sample sales offering great finds. As evening approaches, we’d head over to Koreatown to dine at Dan Sung Sa, a staple restaurant that’s been a part of the community for years. They serve the best dishes that are perfect for pairing with beer or soju. To cap off the night, we’d visit Pharaoh Karaoke Lounge in Koreatown, where we can sing the night away in one of their fun and lively private rooms. This itinerary combines a taste of local culture, fantastic food, and vibrant nightlife, making for an unforgettable Southern California experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to extend a heartfelt shout-out to the incredible team at Align Your Vibes in Studio City, particularly Dr. Dayanara Thompson—a gifted chiropractor—and Cindy Lee, a powerful hypnotherapist. Dr. Day was the first to see the potential healer within me. Initially, I relied more on her belief in my abilities than on my own, as I struggled with self-doubt and lacked the confidence to embark on a career in this field. Her continual encouragement over the years was instrumental in my decision to transition into sound and energy therapy. She not only mentored me but also graciously offered me the opportunity to practice and hone my skills at her wellness studio. Cindy Lee also played a pivotal role in my journey. When I started my practice at Align Your Vibes, my insecurities were overwhelming. However, Cindy’s unwavering support and guidance helped me to overcome my fears and embrace challenges that were far outside my comfort zone. Her ability to redirect my focus and energy whenever I felt discouraged has been crucial in developing my practice. The encouragement and faith I received from both Dr. Day and Cindy have been transformative, enabling me to grow and succeed in this field. Their impact on my life and career is immeasurable, and I am eternally grateful for their support and mentorship.
