We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuri Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yuri, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think our nonprofit has been very successful because people have seen the work that we do in the community and across the 50 STATES.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Yuri Williams the founder of the nonprofit AFutureSuperHero And Friends. I am very proud of our nonprofit as we have been giving back since 2009. I started this nonprofit after losing my mother to cancer in 2009. I fell into a 5 year depression and one day I said I can’t live like this and that’s when I decided to start this nonprofit. We serve Animals, Elderly, Veterans, Houseless, Children with Disabilities, Special Needs and those Battling life threatening illnesses. We also have an Art Healing Program to give those mentioned above an outlet to express themselves. During the holidays I dress up in costume and visit all 50 states visiting all of those previous mentioned. I thought starting a nonprofit would be easy and let me tell you it’s not what you think. Eighty percent of the funding comes from my pay check. I just wish I could get more people involved with this movement so we could help more people. Last October I was going to give up this nonprofit, that’s when I got a call from Good Morning America. They flew me out and told me they wanted to interview a real life superhero. So I’m sitting there and they said that Superman’s son was going to interview me. So I’m sitting there waiting and I hear someone say “ Yuri Williams “ once then again “Yuri Williams . I knew both of those voices from watching them on Tv I turned around and it was Michael Strahan and Dwayne “The Rock “ Johnson . This surprise was what I needed to keep going. I hit that wall and this trip fueled me back up to keep my nonprofit going. When the show was over I began receiving messages on social media of people who had seen me on GMA. They were thanking me for all that I do, I don’t do what I do for likes or fame I do it to honor my mother. I thank god that day and told him that I will continue the mission just guide me and I promise to never give up on this nonprofit ever again. The lesson I learned is things don’t happen when you want but they happen when the time is right . I want the world to know that doing good and helping others is why we are here. Hopefully my message will touch someone’s heart and they will jump on board.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to El Chollos for lunch and then show them around the city. Take them to Universal Studios , Disneyland. Take them to Marina Del Rey , Beverly Hills , Orange County.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out Tommy Norman, Hip Hop Trooper, Rodney Smith Jr. , Juan Carlos, Aaron, Jennifer and the whole squad that supports AFutureSuperHero And Friends. And I can’t forget my mother watching over me with out all of the support and push none of this would be possible.
