Meet Zoë Almanza | Video Editor and Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoë Almanza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zoë, what is the most important factor behind your success?
One of the most important factors behind my success with video editing and content is surrounding myself with friends and a community that inspires me and pushes me. My entire circle is full of not just incredibly successful people, but some of the hardest workers. It inspires me to take on new challenges and projects outside of my comfort zone, and pushes me to be more creative.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have a hard time giving myself props, but when I look at where I started I can’t believe the direction i’m moving in. I’ve worked with some people and brands that would have been on my dream board such as Khy, Halle Berry, and Revolve. To get to where I am today, I think a huge part of it was taking on every job that came my way, and not turning down any work; whether it be a PA, videographer, or editor. I wouldn’t say it was easy at all, and there were definitely days that I worked from 8am to 4am. Time management has been a huge learning curve, as this job requires self discipline. The biggest lesson out of all it though, is that there’s always room to improve and learn. In a world where AI is coming to the fore front of video editing and the content space, it’s important to learn and adapt to new techniques and styles.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles has some of the best restaurants, and being a major foodie I would have to introduce them to areas such as Sawtelle, for ramen, boba and Taiyaki. Abbott Kinney, for the shopping and matchas. West Hollywood, for a comedy show and drinks at EPLP. And Manhattan Beach for a solid beach day and Mexican food & margs at Esperanza.
I would end their trip by doing brunch at Alta Adam’s, which has the BEST modern soul food in Los Angeles and then dinner at Cento Raw Bar and possibly if they let us sneak into Cento, finish off with their banana tiramisu for dessert.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shout out to Mick Kelleher, the creator of Tooth & Melody. He gave me a chance to prove myself in an impossible industry and more so, he acted as a mentor to me. He taught me the ins and the outs of the industry and gave me the constructive criticism I needed to learn and grow as a video editor. He creates beautiful commercial and branded content that tells a story and i’d like to follow in his footsteps.
