We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoe Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zoe, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, I always grew up wanting to be successfull in WHATEVER it was that I was going to do. I have also always been the person that tries everything. I didn’t know what I wanted to do for a long time after I graduated from college. I graduated with my Athletic Training degree and became and Athletic trainer at Physical Therapy clinic and then I thought about going back to school to get my doctorate and become a Physical Therapist but I kept going back and forth debating if I wanted to go back to school or not. Was definitely leaning towards not because I knew I didn’t want to be cooped up in a clinic all day and I wanted to travel and have my own schedule. When covid hit, I started posting my workouts on social media because I literally had nothing else to do and I honestly loved posting about workouts you can do from home and things like that. I just love helping people and as my page grew a lot of people were telling me how much I have helped them. Then once things started to open back up, I went to the gym to workout and a trainer came up to me and asked me if I was a trainer and I said well I’m an Athletic Trainer not a Personal Trainer and he asked “well would you like to be?” I said sure I’ll try! So THAT DAY he said he had a potential client that he might sign so he wanted me to do the free trial they do before they sign on. I was nervous but I did it and I fell in love with it!! I love everything about living a healthy lifestyle but in an attainable way… I am such a sweet tooth and LOVE to eat but there are ways to implement that in a healthy way and not just completely cut it out of your life!! I have always loved to move my body. I find so much joy and peace in it. I just want everyone to experience it.

A year goes by and I was filming at the gym again for social media and another guy came up to me and asked me if I did online training and I had no idea what it was so I said no.. He was giving me a little run down of what it was and then showed me how much he made per month as an online trainer and I was HOOKED. That day he literally changed my life. I had a meeting with him the next day and he showed me everything and basically became my mentor. It was super challenging at the beginning to build my business because you’re starting from the bottom, I didn’t have that many client transformations because when I was training in person, they weren’t technically MY clients. But as I was hearing all of these other people’s success stories about how much they make online training, I knew I could too. One thing about me is I do not give up, especially if want it really bad. And I want success and freedom really bad!! I love my journey and where I am now but I’m only here now because I never quit on myself!!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like I struggle with what sets me apart…I feel like I’m just consistent and show up everyday for myself. I am genuine in my content and with my clients. At the end of the day I want the SAME thing they want, for anyone I am helping or training or have made an impact on to achieve whatever goal it is they wanted to achieve!

I am so proud and excited about the success I’ve been experiencing, especially lately. I have an assistant who I LOVE, I just recently bought my dream car, I just purchased my first home that I’m turning into a rental property, I am potentially about to work with my dream workout clothing brand.. I feel like I’m living a lot of the things I have been manifesting and its so surreal.

OOF it was not easy.. One thing I will say that helped me so much, and I could never repay them, but as I was building my business, my parents let me live at home with them. It allowed me to save up A LOT and focus on building what I needed to build. I also work a part time job as well which I love that helped me save as I was putting all of my focus into my business. The hardest thing I think was sales…. I’m not a great sales person and selling myself and advertising myself and my work is HARD to do for me. Even getting on potential client calls.. I still get nervous to this day to get on calls because I hate asking people for money!! lol BUT I have gotten so much better at them. Practice, practice, practice. I used to practice calls a lot with people in my mentorship and I feel like that’s what helped me significantly. Its sucks to hear the no’s but the yes’s make it so much worth it! Because then people are believing in what I’m providing.

I have learned so much honestly… Be genuine. Be kind. Be open. Be yourself! Fall in love with the journey and always be grateful for where you’re at. Do not give up on yourself. Also investing in things to help your business or take the load off of you is so important. I was doing literally everything on my own before I got my assistant and we still can’t do a good bit of things because she lives in a different state but it’s so much better now. ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS. Do not be afraid to ask questions. I ask questions all the time to entrepreneurs who aren’t even in my field because there is knowledge everywhere!! and knowledge is power!!!

I absolutely love what I do. And I feel like if you were to hire anyone, hire the one’s who love and are passionate about what they do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ahhhh so I love in Murfreesboro, outside of Nashville, and I do not go out a lot. But I would say we are for sure going to Nashville shores waterpark, Gatlinburg, go to my favorite sushi place called Lemongrass, go to downtown broadway and go to all of the bars and clubs on the strip, go to 5th on Broadway, go see live music, we will for sure go to an NSC soccer game!! Those are so much fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh my goodness SO many people. My family and my parents specifically because they have always taught us to chase our dreams and they have ALWAYS supported us and have believed in us. The first trainer I ever worked with, Ambrose. He took me in and helped me achieve my first personal training job. My mentor, Terrance. He single handedly guided me through and always saw potential in me. I wouldn’t have even KNOWN what online training was if it wasn’t for him!! My boyfriend, J’ylan. He has ALWAYS supported me. I used to change my mind every single day about what I wanted to do and he always said I would be successful at whatever path I chose. God also!! I DEFINITELY would not have been able to do it without Him because boyyyyyy I was struggling for a bit and praying HARD for some guidance. It all kind of fell into my lap and I’m so glad I said yes! My support is unreal and I’m so thankful.
