Meet Zoila Molina | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoila Molina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zoila, why did you pursue a creative career?
I think this happened naturally because I always liked creative activities. My mother is a painter and an art teacher, so I grew up drawing and painting by her side. Then I became more interested in learning music and I learned how to play guitar and drums, and around 16 I connected deeply with photography and realized that the camera was my instrument. It is a privilege to be able to choose an artistic career, and at the same time it’s something I don’t think I could avoid.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a film photographer that is obsessed with color and iconography, and I love creating characters for my photos. We all play roles in our lives, whether it’s a persona we craft on social media, or how we interact with different groups of people in our lives. I look for the moment when you put on a wig, a high heel or a big coat, and your attitude changes. It’s about unraveling the layers of ourselves through the roles we play.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is very cliche but I have to thank my family! My first point and shoot camera was a gift from my uncle, who is also into photography and has always supported me. Also shoutout to pop culture, and the music artists that inspire me to create characters and moments.
