Meet Zoya Emami

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoya Emami and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zoya, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I reached a point within my career and self journey where not taking risks limited my experience of life and access to opportunities. In the various industries I work in I began to realize you miss every chance you do not take. Being my own support and believing in my abilities and self worth are what help keep me grounded in the whirlwind of it all. Healing, breaking cycles within my family and acceptance are all deeply essential to growth and movement in my life. You truly never know what life may hold around the corner so taking the chance and seeing what happens has helped build my confidence and approach to all my career endeavors. Whether it be writing, modeling, makeup artistry, TV & film, content creation, or within the corporate landscape. I have always believed in doing the best you can each day in order to not miss out on the abundance that can come from allowing your creative work and self to be seen.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been an artist and always knew I wanted to incorporate all aspects of my interests into my work. For a long time I struggled with mental health which created confines of limited belief in myself, but deep self love and care practices allowed me to open up the possibilities of greatness. I began modeling at twelve and found passion in the creative art of pose and connection with new people. I have always been interested in poetry as well and decided to take a shot in the dark by publishing a piece in a philanthropist magazine. Taking the risk of moving to Los Angeles to pursue all it has to offer took a large leap of faith that I’m so grateful for each and everyday. I learned so much about myself and all the wild avenues, twists and turns life can bring. I’d like the world to know that strength in kindness and belief in yourself can carry you all the places you want to go.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love taking anyone who visits me to the beach. El Matador in Malibu has a special place in my heart—the first week I lived in LA my family hugged me goodbye at sunset while watching a huge pod of dolphins, so it’s a very comforting place. For coffee I have a few hidden gems but anywhere with specialty lattes gets me. Next we always go on a waterfall hike or to Griffith Observatory, and then end the day with some Persian food! Some nature and coffee and I’m all good to go.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest support is my chosen family and loved ones who carry me through. Jordan and Farrah especially inspire me to create and to show up. I would also credit the women in my family, as I am deeply motivated to take opportunities they did not have access to. Being the daughter of a first generation immigrant, I’m deeply passionate about pursuing life and all it has to offer.
