We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Alvarez- Lagania and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, what do you attribute your success to?
There is no secret to it but hardwork made it all happen. Putting work day in and day out while having patience and remaining enthusiastic that everything will work out. One of the most important things too is passion. Without working with your heart, your business will not last that long.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Platinum Event Planning & Management caters to different kinds of events and weddings. Regardless if its a big or small celebration, our treatment for each event is the same- we give our all to make sure each client will be happy after their event. It was not an easy road to take- a lot of hardwork, sleepless nights and tears but all is worth it once you start booking clients. Rejections will test your character but all you have to do is keep going and remember that every single client that you did not get is really not meant to be for you. There will always be a client who is destined for you. I have learned the importance of keeping your hope and faith despite challenges as well as the importance of innovation. You have to know how to adapt to the changing landscape especially now that the event industry took a huge hit with the pandemic.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA will always be one of the best cities to tour around! I’ll of course take her to the Santa Monica Pier, Manhattan Beach, Griffith Observatory, Rodeo Drive, LACMA, Runyon Canyon. I’ll tour her around LA Live too so she can see the Staples Center and all the surrounding site in DTLA. We would also drive to Big Bear and Solvang during the fall and winter season. Food wise- of course we will take her to the famous In and Out, Shake Shack and let her try the fancier ones like Catch LA, Rossoblu,Gracias Madre, Fleming’s, Fogo de Chao and Mastro’s Steakhouse. Lastly, we will let her try our favorite Peruvian restaurant- Mario’s.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents and my husband deserve a big recognition in my story! Without their unconditional support, encouragement and love, I would not have done what I did with my career.
