We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebeca Pulido and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebeca, were your parents strict, free-spirited, what sort of parenting style did they have? How do you think their parenting style affected you?
I had two loving parents until the age of four, when we lost our father to a drunk driver. Our mother was always there to encourage and instill the driving force to do well in school and in all of our endeavors. She showed us that by doing right by others one could achieve not just personal success, but inner peace. We apply the same philosophy to our business transactions as well as our everyday life.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our business has been around a little while…since 1945. It has gone through a couple different owners, with us being the third. The change of ownership was only due to retirement time, not lack of enthusiasm for the craft. We are the latest generation to carry the Art Decal torch. I first began at Art Decal as a computer designer. At the time, artwork was still being produced the good ol’ fashioned way. I had so many ideas which at first, were not accepted by the current staff. The current system was good enough…well, not for me. I kept improving and implementing small but significant modifications being careful not to step on toes. I was met with some opposition by some of the staff, but my boss and owner, Gary Blackmun, knew that with the proposed improvements meant more money in the bank. The thought of streamlining the whole process was very exciting. Two years into me joining the Art Decal team I was determined that one day, I would own it! I approached Gary with my proposition and continued to prove myself in his eyes. He is a very intelligent individual with a sense for what’s good business. He promoted me to production manager and there and then began my journey to the path I am now on. Art Decal Enterprises’ mission is to treat customers with respect and individuality. We uphold our tradition of high standards and ethics which we pride ourselves in.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our business success is really difficult to narrow it down to just on individual. There have been so many people in my life who have encouraged me along the way. My family has always stood behind me, even in times when my choices were not the best. Never the less, they have been there. The one individual who has been by my side throughout the good and bad times has been my partner and husband, Jaime. No matter what crazy idea I may have, and believe me, there have been many, he has worked beside me to help them come to fruition.
