Shandel Love | Actress & Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shandel Love and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shandel, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
This question is interesting because it makes me have to reflect on why I do what I do? Before having a child and even now as a new mom, aside from my child being my legacy and raising her to be an amazing human being with sound values, filled with kindness and love. I would want my legacy to be my passion. Whatever the topic, whether it is my work, personal life or belief system, I cannot hide my extreme passion for the topic at hand, usually to a fault. I once heard that, “What we believe to be our greatest disadvantage may actually be our greatest advantage.” I believe that in this life, whatever your pursuit, do it with passion or not at all.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being in a creative field can be challenging, whether it is acting, writing or designing, there is always a beginning, a middle, and an end. During each of these stages it is most vital to stay positive, motivated, healthy and at peace with each part of the process. There is a not knowing, what’s next and that is something that has to be understood, accepted and nurtured.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In California, you always have to go to the beach. One of my favorite getaways is Paradise Cove in Malibu, CA. The food is amazing, the location is quiet and semi-private. The energy is very relaxed and there aren’t too many tourists. I would avoid weekends and definitely call ahead.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank all of my colleagues who believe in me and lift me up to continue pushing forward through any obstacles as well as my partner for all the support and encouragement. In addition I would like to thank my coaches and instructors for their guidance, especially Don Bloomfield at DBA studio. Don always shoots it straight, no thrills, and has taught me more about myself and my craft over the years than I could have ever imagined.
